Aren't these pretty much the same game? I thought PR2 was just an advanced version of Patrician 3, or a pseudo-sequel to it.

The Patrician series is set in Europe. The Port Royale series is set in the Caribbean. They have similar game mechanics, but the gameplay is vastly different.

I also have both of them already (P3 not from here, that"s on disc, but I got PR2 from here in December), and I think we should look at it his way: it's worth the 1.5$ difference that I have a number of playhours put into the game already ;-).
Yes, mechanics-wise, PR2 is an advanced version of P3, but, like Matri said, the atmospheres are quite different, and also, I find that many of the small hindrances of P3 got left out for PR2, so it seems to play much smoother.

Weclock: nobody has any weekend sales I want to buy. :(

Poor Weclock, your princess is always in another castle...

Oh. neat. Would this mean it's worth me (someone who's put a good amount of hours into Port Royale 2) trying out Patrician 2 (which I own)? Or would it feel a bit clunky by comparison.
Why is Red Orchestra a cop-out? I've noticed they've put it as the weekend deal 2 times (I think) before: is that why?
Every time they make an update to it, minor included, it goes on sale. I don't see why they don't just reduce the price permanently on it now.

nobody plays the game, it is highly regarded as a trash game to have on ones account. maybe they saw the addition of steam achievements to UT3 and thought it would work for them, but it obviously isn't going to work.
although it looks like it did get a little higher on the top sellers list, so what do I know?
all I know really is that hardly anyone played it previously and it wasn't worth anyone's time of day.
Err.... Red Orchestra is a great game, one of the best on Steam. There's a reason it's constantly being played and updated (both by fans and the devs) many years after the original release. RO is the only serious multiplayer game I can be bothered to play.

I played it twice... and I stopped. I like the game and the premise, but there's just something lacking. Maybe because I've never played a WW2 where you play as the Russians specifically, but that's just me.

That way all the shooters are pseudo-sequel to all the shooters. point-click-point-click etc..
Its the settings, backdrops, story etc, come into the picture.

I think part of the reason RO never went HUGE is because of the difficulty level. They took realism in a FPS to a level that hasn't been seen very frequently, which was going to be an instant turnoff for all the 'quick twitch shooter boyz' (which, considering you wouldn't have to hear their lame crap over chat or see their stupidity typed out as they whine about everything, should probably be advertised as a feature).

Not really, this sort of game lives and dies by its mechanics more than its spectacle, and it's the sort of series that's ore likely to refine itself and add new mechanics with each title.
A better comparison would be to take two years' incarnations of the same sports game. The earlier game is still going to be playable, but after playing a later incarnation, the earlier one's likely to seem a bit crude and unrefined by comparison.
The end of the trailer makes GOG seem really sinister!
