It's not what you or I or many others here want, but without the GOG Downloader, I recommend using a third party program like Free Download Manager 5, so that you can queue your game downloads, have some kind of checking, plus pause and resume, and also set the download speed. I have it enabled with a browser addon, and setup so that when I hold down ALT while clicking on a download link, that program takes over the downloading.

Once downloaded, you can then test out the integrity of the downloads using InnoExtract and 7-Zip etc. To simplify that and give a batch option for checking all at once, I have made a frontend program for those third party programs, which works via drag & drop.

I suspect GOG are not the ones at fault though, when it comes to what is made available here Linux wise. At worst, you could maybe accuse them of being complicit, if they don't insist the publisher etc provide the Linux variant as well, but that could very well mean we don't even get the more common Windows variant ... and like you said, Wine is suitable for some of those to run in Linux.

As much as I take GOG to task now and then, I do appreciate the difficulties they often face, and I am very grateful for their continued existence, and I have nothing but praise for their Support section. I do realize it can be a difficult road the one they travel, and I wish they would extend their DRM-Free stance trust to us, with more transparency around their problems.

Take Galaxy for instance, it is an issue that many of us have, where GOG appears to be working against our interests for their own agenda, forcing it on us. They should be working with us not against us. And unlike what some think here, it is not just about what you do say, but also about what you don't say.

Communication is a two-way street and thrives on clarity.

I'd sworn to leave this place but I've found a new, bad surprise... And I suspect it's directly connected with that stupid decision to rid of our beloved old Downloader.

Timespinner (via browser) has no more the .exe version but there's only in .sh...

So, GOG, thanks for nothing again: now, I have to install a third party software to run and install the game.

Or (coincidentally!!!) I have to install Galaxy...

Maybe it's a temporary issue... Maybe it's a sort of sneaky "mobbing" tactic to force using their Client...

I think this is a glitch, not totally unlike when the website displays in a different language sometimes. When you go to the game page, look up to where it says "System" and it will have been automatically switched to something other than Windows. Why it does this, don't ask me. I've noticed it's happened with some games like Imperator Rome wanting to give ".pkg" files too, but then you click and switch it back to Windows and it's fine.

.sh files are Linux files,
.pkg files are Mac files,
.exe files are Windows files.

If you download your games, make sure that the correct OS is selected...sometimes (lately apparently more often) GOG changes the default for some reason.

you are downloading the Linux files. make sure you are downloading the Windows version if you want .exe files.

To the thread: Everyone should be applauded for trying to make a go of this GOG DLer thing...that said, Zoom Platform is making a revamped site & possible forums, and is taking suggestions(games, site, etc) on it's discord....so maybe some here could give them ideas or maybe support a site that seems to care(for now) about their users?

(If only to get GOG to maybe change it's ways and listen to the users here more)

If you're suggesting that Zoom stuff in general(on the forums) is spam then wouldn't posting offsite sales(which there is a thread for in GD) or threads on offsite stores(as many do) also be spam?

If you're suggesting this post doesn't belong here....why do you think such? It's one post and is somewhat ontopic(and likely helpful to some posting to this thread or reading it regularly)

Also don't you want GOG to have competition that will maybe cause GOG to improve itself, or so users here have other DRM free options?

Also let's face facts......it has been over a month, there are over 1,000 votes, and they didn't give anyone here what they have been asking for....they only doubled down and removed galaxy 1 as well.

It is likely they won't reverse that choice easily(if at all).....some competition might help make that a more likely reality, or it might at least give some a new place to get the games they love.

And isn't that what matters? That customers can buy DRM free games and DL them easily on a store that cares or at least appears to care?
