It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I will not use galaxy.

There are only very few reasons people use GOG over Steam.
Lite download client (without adware/store/social BS) was one of them!!

It seems they want slowly killing critical stuff..what will kill momentum that drives this freeedom of choice movement => slow end of GOG

Problem with galaxy is that is in it nature resource hog.
javascript VS c++ can't win...

How much is 666 * 666????
You can use calculator VS Excel , both can solve this "simple problem"....
You get it people?

They should adding better and good features, not removing them from GOG ecosystem.

rjbuffchix: yOuR'e So NeGaTiVe! Why don't you just try Galaxy bro? It downloads your games like Downloader, and more!
On the reverse tack:

"Galaxy is coming for everyone...your women and children....save yourselves now while you all still can!" ;)

There is a bunch of people responding here and in other threads, that have no interest in the GOG Downloader, other than to criticize us that do. They spout all sorts of crap and try and tar us with absolute rubbish. They have no idea how to use logic, but pretend they do, but clearly none of that matters, as they are just here to cause trouble ... that is their sole agenda.

I encourage all good folk here to just ignore them .... and I should listen to my own advice.
Didn't you post this same post to another thread?

And why do you need to post the links a half dozen times?

Why not just post them to one post and then tell people where to find them every so often?

It should be obvious to anyone who has been here for more than five minutes, that GOG are now straying far from why they were created in the first place. The original owners can see the writing on the wall I imagine, and are not happy.

LET GOG KNOW HOW YOU FEEL BY VOTING
https://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/keep_the_gog_downloader_and_keep_it_up_to_date

P.S. I note there has been a good rise in numbers voting. Keep it up good folk. Even if it never manages to convince GOG to change their mind, it is evidence of how many want the GOG Downloader, and every vote offsets the supposed cost saving or supposed benefit(s), so cannot be used as an excuse.

It is already a lot of people (327) to ignore. Long live minorities!

And those who don't care about the GOG Downloader or DRM are not impacted by its existence and use anyway, so a foolish move on GOG's part to remove it. And having done so, it just shows there is a Galaxy agenda etc.

vsr: GOG should develop a cross-platform downloader tool (based on GNU Wget or something), which will work on all OS (GNU/Linux, MacOS, WIndows).
avatar
Fogamer: The old Windows Downloader was working fine already, till the end. It's just their strategy, they want to discontinue standalone-installers and enforce DRM through the backdoor with Galaxy.

For my part, when the downloader died I had decided to not buy from GOG again. Bye bye downloader == bye bye GOG.
Me too, planed to get Original Sin this sale, but guess what?.. yea no buy from me now, until they restore good old GOG downloader.

lets put this number in perspective, shall we?

We do not know how many users gOg has, but in 2015, 2 weeks after the release of W3, 693000 players played W3 on Galaxy. So they et least needed a gOg account. So if we assume this is lowest number of users (it is larger, off course, because not all gOg users use Galaxy, and not all gOg users bought W3 two weeks after release), but lets just go with it for now. This means that it is 327*100/693000~0.047% of gOg's user base that have voted for this

And all that is with multiple threads/people spreading the word to others......and even if only 1/10th of those who want to vote for this have done so, it's still less than 0.5% of GOG's user base.

Just out of complete spite, I'm thinking of posting GOG downloader alternatives just so people stop getting their knickers in their twist. Sure, you might need to know how to activate a python script, but it really isn't that scary.

The GOG Repo program. This one has existed since 2015. You've had ample time to look into it.

The LGOG Downloader. Existent since 2012.

Comet, a tiny version of Galaxy for Linux.

MinGalaxy, more of the same.

Lutris, an open gaming platform.

And there's probably more. But to this point, I've illustrated things nicely: Alternatives exist. Use one.

I see the number has jumped a good bit since I last posted ... now 368. Keep it up good folk.

Sure, we are a minority, but as I have said elsewhere, we are still a significant number to ignore ... especially when you are doing it for no good reason ... profit is profit. Not to mention, that unhappy customers can have a flow on effect.

The more that vote, the more we or others realize the truth.

We are not powerless, and GOG needs to respect our position.

My solution over the others .... at least until I check out the others listed.

P.S. I am still considering making that file integrity check an EXE file .... or it occurs to me I could just go the full hog and make my own dropbox downloader ... something I have already done to great success for other downloads. I'll let you ponder the possible ramifications of that .... we are not powerless. I really don't want to go to the trouble, but .....

I am missing some nice UI for Windows please - you know, like the GOG Downloader had. Also it would nice to be able to start the download exactly from where the update has been shown (aka the website) - like .. .well ... the Downloader did (this is a thing not even Galaxy offers atm). So before you start judging others please offer some REAL alternatives - you know, things that actually CAN do the EXACT SAME thing with the same kind of easiness attached to them.

At least he posted it ONCE, and not many times like "some" seem to be doing.

This will sound rude/harsh, but: You should tell that to those judging GOG for what it did.

Also people have alternatives....so it's not like they have nothing at all.....the current best options(seeing as GOG likely will not be changing their minds) are more or less as follows:

1. Use one of the alternatives or the browser.
2. Make a new one(for those that know how and want to help out)
3. Not buy from-DL from GOG.

Well, I have gone and done it, created that EXE with a dropbox and an imitation DOS console. Still needs some refinement, as I pinched much of the code from elsewhere and just adjusted, but it is working well. I am also going to add in zip file checking, even though a double-click will fairly quickly tell you the state of those. Anyway, you will need 7-zip for that in my program. I still need to look into at least checking the SH files aren't corrupt, but not really researched that yet.

I didn't need to so far, but it is possible that some BIN files might require a more current version of UnRAR, than what is built into InnoExtract. I guess I could require free UnRAR for the zip files instead of 7-Zip, and solve that issue as well.

I did an EXE file that had two related BIN files, that were 4 and 3.5 Gb respectively, and it didn't take too long on my slow machine ... probably no longer than the GOG Downloader did when it checked after getting to 100% with the download.

This is much easier than using a BAT file and shortcut for drag & drop. You drag your EXE files onto the dropbox, it creates a list of paths, and when ready you click Start. It then opens my imitation DOS console window, where you see InnoExtract working with its testing. When it is finished, it saves the result for each EXE file, and then exits the console window. So you can set and forget and check the last line in those result files when ready. There will be a shutdown option for those who want it, etc. There is also a Log record you can check with a button on the dropbox, for a brief result of passed or failed or an error or cancelled. The individual results.txt files give greater detail.

Voted + asked friends to vote too.

Just give back our downloader , so we don't need checkings and busywork.
