Please add your vote against the possible introduction of regional censorship on GOG! Thanks!

http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/no_regional_censorship_on_gog_ever
Voted! and +1

That is exactly the reason why I havn't preordered The Witcher 3 yet. Unless I get a clear answer on regional censorship from someone official at GOG, my money is staying with me.
Voted, though as I said in my comment, too often the might of the government trumps the will of the vendor.

Pretty much this. Voted but I dunno if gog has much "to say" in that matter.

But hey, you can always import it from Poland, the price will be (probably) better too. :P

Yeah, but gog is operating from Cyprus/Poland, so why should they care? What are the German authorities going to do about that? Create a firewall that would prevent German users access to gog? Highly unlikely, considering that amazon.com also sells stuff that is banned in Germany (and you could buy those, too, you just have to pray that the customs don't get their filthy mitts on it - but considering the nature of digital distribution, that's not exactly a problem that gog users would have to face), yet I don't see the authorities blocking that site.

That being said, I don't expect "The Witcher 3" to have any problems with the German censors (they tend to go easy on games with fantasy settings). But I still don't want to see that particular floodgate to be opened.

Ummm, the only regional censorship we had to have via court order was with The Witcher 2 and the Australian version but, again, that was out of our hands.

Speaking of censorship, most of the time German versions of games are censored by the developers in order to be allowed to sell on the German market without being indexed (I am not sure of the proper word here but I believe there was some sort of index in Germany with games banned, please correct me if I am wrong). We do, however, offer the uncensored English versions of games along their censored counterparts (see Shadow Man and System Shock 2).
There, my good man! You, have both my vote, AND my support! Censorship, is like DRM. Oppression, tyranny, instigated ruler. The stuff that many masochists blindly, or even worse, fully-knowingly, support. Censorship, is actually worse, because it extends and expands, even outside of games, like in art and real life, for example. This, just proves how wrong, faulty, or simply fraudulent, democracy, or that aberration arbitrarily christened "democracy", actually is. But that is another tale.

GoG, you can do it! We believe in you! You are 2/3 in our books!

1) DRM FREE
2) FAIR PRICE (And thank you twice for preserving that, even in your expense as a company)
3) NO CENSORSHIP (Please, work on it, keep up the good work)!

Half right :-) This index exists. Media on the index (mostly for violence/porn) are not banned in the stricted sense. It's forbidden to promote them or even to put them on display in a public section of a store. Even a positive review in a magazine can count as promotion - leading to "indexing" of the whole edition. People who want to buy indexed media have to "ask for it" (i.e. at the counter of the store).

You can imagine what "indexed" means to sales...

Now there's a second stage - banned by court order. Most of the time this is done due to "glorifying violence" (Manhunt game, Battle Royale movie). This means it is forbidden to "pass on" the media in any way, sell, gift, losing it for a stranger to find... (inherit may be okay). Possession is legal, but it's hard to get hold of those titles. Importing them can (and often will) lead to confiscation when the mail/luggage is checked.

So I take it Wolfenstein 3D was one of those "banned by court order" games due to its swastikas all over the place?

What now? What was that thing about wolves? Never heard of it!

*nervously takes a sip of tea, fully expecting the local authorities to break down his door any minute now*

As do I! Please don't take my wishlist entry and this thread the wrong way, Judas. The way gog currently handles everything is nothing short of perfect and I don't want that to ever change! :)
