mystikmind2000: One thing i noticed weird on Steam in Australia was Civ5...... it stayed expensive on Steam for years..... usually the price comes down as it gets old.... NOPE not for Australia.

So while Civ5 was still 80 something bucks on steam after 4 years.... i went to the retail store in Australia, bought it for 30 bucks, then registered it in Steam.

I don't know much about how it all works,,, but for all that above crap to happen..... it tells me something very dubious is going on with Steam in Australia

mechmouse: No that is actually standard for the entire world.

It is a common misconception that Steam is Cheap.
For 20 days a year a game may be cheap, but for the rest of the Year they've over priced compared to their physical counterpart (either on PC or console).

Prices are set by the publishers, and with infinite stock and none of the normal market factors that reduce price, they have no impetus to change them.

CIV5 is just one of many games where the publisher took a 1/3 of the price a year after release and left it. Call of Duty is worse, last time I looked the 5 year old game is still asking its original release price.
That's interesting, thanks :)

Oh but as far as regional pricing is concerned.... yes, i noticed a few sales for civ5 on Steam but when i click to buy it, it says not available in my region.
