"Oops!" alert ;-)

Yesterday, my Library was showing that one of my games had been updated. So I went into the Library to check it out, and looked for the changelog to see what the update was -- obviously, if it was for an OS I don't use, I wouldn't bother downloading it. But there wasn't any changelog at all. I backed away, thinking maybe it hadn't been tagged with one yet, and planned to come back -- not thinking, of course, that when I did it would no longer show as updated. And of course, that's what has happened.

And now I can't remember which game it was. Does anyone know a way of finding out which game, so I can go back and download the updated version?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks, Matruchus. I did think of that, but it's kind of a long way around, though.

No way to track it with reference to the titles specifically in my library?

No, unfortunately there is no other option there. But there weren't that many games updated. Also when you post to me please click on my post for a reply so that I get a notification from gog.

Yeah, I did.

I've been through that thread, but can't see anything that corresponds. (I don't like the forums very much, to be honest, because the unhelpful colours and non-resizeable display aren't very friendly to any kind of vision difficulties. Bizarre that it doesn't let you set a custom font size for display. or at least default to something a bit larger.)

I went through my entire Library, checking every title for changelogs, and found none for any title that had recently updated that i hadn't already downloaded. But I also found a few that had updated (and I'd downloaded the updates) that didn't have changelogs. So clearly the GOG system has room for improvement on the consistency/reliability side of things.

Ah well. Thanks for your replies, anyhow. :-)

Yeah not all GOG games have a changelog, not sure how they decide whether one has one or not.

If your intention is to download all your GOG game offline installers (and keep them updated) on your PC, then one solution to your problem is gogrepo. It detects if any game installers or extras have changed and will download them for you, regardless whether there is an update notification or not (as long as you recreate the whole manifest file, not using the -skipknown or -updateonly options with the "gogrepo.py update" command); I think with the -updateonly option it will rely on those same GOG update notifications, so I rather recreate the whole manifest file every now and then just so that I don't miss any (silent) changes).

It also resets any active update notifications while it downloads and creates the manifest file. So i've stopped caring about the GOG update notifications, they will get removed anyway the next time I run gogrepo. Sometimes I might check the changelog too (gogrepo downloads any changelog to a text file as well for each game).

Hi timppu,
Yes, you're right. I prefer to keep an archived set of the full installables for the games, so I can load and play them on a machine that's not connected to the Internet.

Thanks so much for mentioning the gogrepo utility. I hadn't heard of it before, but I'll definitely check it out -- it sounds like a perfect solution. Very much appreciated!

I gather GOG is putting most of its efforts into the Galaxy way of doing things, and I understand that, but it's not the way I like to do things. I don't know how much of a headache it would be for GOG, but I think it would help if Library items remained marked as "Updated" until either the update is downloaded, or manually dismissed. That would be useful.
Yeah, that's a problem with GOG alright, it dismisses update notifications by itself. But there's something you can do about it on Galaxy and the GOG website just in case, and that's what I do.

If a game gets updated, first find it. I learnt today that I have an update for Banished to download. So I picked up the Banished title, and gave it a new tag to mark it for me later "NEEDS UPDATING."

Enter Account (where you see your game titles), then on the bar at the top, click "TAGS" and from the drop down menu, select "MANAGE TAGS." On the new page, write the name for a new tag in the "Add new tag" textbox and press the save button. I prefer if you used my same naming scheme: "NEEDS UPDATING." You can also sort the available tags so that the most relevant are listed first. Head back to Account, hover over the game that needs updating, press the arrow looking down button for a drop down menu, head to "ASSIGN TAGS..." and tag the game with your "NEEDS UPDATING." tag.

Next time you want to see only the games that need to be updated? Head to the bar at the top, click "TAGS" and filter to "NEEDS UPDATING." Should work as a great workaround.
