An Edict of opportunity.

Looking to get the most out of Tyranny, the old-school isometric RPG by celebrated masters Obsidian? Go ahead: the base price for the Overlord Edition is now lower than ever before and you also have the option to Upgrade, if you don't feel quite ready yet. On top of that, there is a 66% discount on both Overlord and Commander editions until January 26, 6PM UTC.
Check the rest of the discounts on our Tyranny sale.
but act fast, Kyros doesn't like waiting.

Note: Archon Edition has now been removed from sale. All current owners still have access to its content as normal.

Nice try, Paradox.

As someone who preordered the Overlord Edition, I won't fall for your shit again until the content-intentionally-cut-from-release-DLCs are at least 75% off, bundled.

I'm actually glad you aren't involved in PoE 2.

HunchBluntley: Overlord was $80 from launch until today. The super-most-primo-deluxiest versions of Pillars of Eternity and Torment: Tides of Numenera were $90 (and Torment's still is).

yogsloth: Right, thanks.

Hmmm.

$38.40 right now for the whole shebang. Is that worth it?
I liked Tyranny more than PoE. Better setting, lore, and characters. Better gameplay in general despite some flaws. I love the design of the main factions - one Lawful Evil and one Chaotic Evil - and the lore of the Archons (mage-gods who pioneer and embody types of magic).

That being said, the second half of the game seems rushed and sometimes railroads the player. I think it's worth playing overall, but if you think the later dip in quality might ruin the experience for you, then consider waiting for a lower price.

I guess that we who have bought the game earlier will not get any refund, will we? I bought it during the last winter sales, only to see that I could have bought it cheaper if I waited a month longer.

I was going to buy Tyranny during the previous (or the one before that -- lost count!) sale, but seeing all those DLCs it made me wonder if content was cut from the base game to be sold as DLCs (a practice that i despise) and if more DLCs will spawn but, ultimately, if the DLCs are required to better enjoy the story. I don't have a problem buying proper expansions such as the one for Pillars of Eternity, but having to buy bits & bytes to enhance the main game gameplay-wise or story-wise is ridiculous, it's already getting old and i won't support it.

Thank you sir.

I picked it up!

Enebias: Nope. Not buying until the definitive edition comes out at a fraction of the price of the base game. You won't be able to pull another PoE at me, Paradox.
avatar
Mygaffer: Pillars of Eternity was awesome and well worth the money for the base game and the expansion.

Tyranny... well different strokes for different folks but I tried it out and did not care for it. If I ever do buy it then it will be when I can buy everything all together, on sale or it will be never.
I enjoyed PoE, make no mistake, and it is indeed a worthy game... yet when Paradox pulls their marketing stunts one cannot but question what the actual worth of the game is for THEM.
First you sell differend editions at ludicrous prices, maybe without providing upgrade packs, then after a couple of years you get the full package for a fraction of the price of the incomplete one? That makes me wonder...
Same goes for their incomplete games with gazillions of DLC. I don't like Paradox politics, I want to say it loud and clear. Not. One. Bit. They may have a fanbase ready to shove money at them, but I am no fool. They know their prices are super-inflated and the real value of their games is like the 25% of the base price. They just try to suck as much money as possible from those who can afford it.
Same reasoning for Telltale and other publishers really, but at least they don't fraction their products or come up with super-duper-omnipotent editions and then play the innocent and benevolent part.

Doing multiple editions for games is really nothing new and Paradox does have a philosphy of not discounting games too much as they believe it reduces their overall market value.

That being said the Pillars sequel, Deadfire, will not be published by Paradox at all, so keep an eye out for it this spring. It's looking like it will quite amazing.
In November 2016, I preordered the Overlord Edition (with pre-order bonus content).
And I regret the game isn't marked as "owned" on the store, it is a glitch related to somes games that have specific editions.

The warning displayed in Checkout is nice but not a definitive solution.
On Steam the Overlord edition upgrade is 66% off. I wonder why it isn't on GOG.

Steam $5.10

GOG $4.99

Not seeing anything to complain about... Is the difference greater/significant in your region?

Temporary price adjustment to simulate the proper discount, I'd guess. Wasn't the upgrade left out of the sale to start?

Probably. It's still not shown on the Tyranny sale page, you have to explicitly search for it.

Yeah, it's not listed and linked with the rest of the DLC on the Commander Edition page either. GOG bears are slacking.

So you're probably right, the price is discounted, but it wrongly shows as undiscounted.
Still it seems to me that the prices are messed up. I've checked at steamprices and in some regions the GOG price is different, also in other regions the GOG price seems the correct (and undiscounted). Somebody messed up...
