There is an autosave, but it saves at the beginning of each turn except the first. I also have an autoreport system in place so if it crashes in theory you can send me a stacktrace and if we're lucky I can figure out what the hell is going on ;).
If you lack something, the item will be greyed in the building's list. And of course you can't add it to production if you don't have what it takes. Unfortunately there is only a german documentation, but I'll try to explain quickly: the larger a planet, the larger the resource bonuses. The largest planets (giants) give about 200% if I remember right, the smallest one 25%.
Solar panels can be built on barren worlds if I recall correctly. Other types of planets can have different bonus buildings.
Don't worry too much about resources, near the end game you'll find that you have more than enough. And in the beginning Resource Routes help quite a bit.
Deuterim is a special cause though because it's pretty rare so you should build shipyards in systems with deuterium.
Unfortunately you can't influence combat after it started, although it's simulated in 3D in the background (Similar to Birth of the Federation), but there are no 3D models to use. The only decision you can make is to instruct individual ships to Attack, Avoid or Retreat. You can also choose not to fight but instead trying to Hail the others. Or retreat with all ships.
Also there is system attack (ship command), using which you can invade systems (if you have transports with troops). It's actually a bit overpowered against the AI, because the AI doesn't knows how to use troops yet. Woe the day when it will (I have some ideas, but no time atm :D).
Here I have to explain a bit: Internal security is important because it helps defend against others. So keep some reserve. You can assign a percentage to any race or to all. Now if you don't assign in the Espionage/Sabotage section to any race, then they will be stored and can be used later. If they are assigned and you defeat their internal security then espionage reports are generated. Based on espionage reports you can launch sabotage actions (Attempt tab). If you again beat their internal security then you'll succeed. If you beat them by a high margin then you even can frame others, which will worsen their relations.
Never heard of them, but you can spread the word. Just don't throw stones if it doesn't works for some. Galaxy S3 is notorious for having problems and I couldn't get a Stacktrace yet for some reason :(.
Btw. I think the Cartare (Cardassians) are easiest to play. You can subjugate minors in the early game, giving you a huge edge. For those of you who struggle ;).
If you haven't found it, there is a feature to quickly find inactive ships. Double tap under the End Turn button. You have to hit about in the same position, but it's a huge pain in late-game otherwise. Unfortunately the large number of interface elements make it hard to place extra buttons and on Android the control options are very limited :/
