Going year by year and increasing seems fine to me, and '95 is an all right compromise to generate interest from the beginning and not restrict this only to serious retro gamers. The only alternative I can think of, only if there's a strong demand for it, would be to alternate, a step forward, a step back, and maybe include an increasing number of years on the steps back, so 95 -> 96 -> 93-94 -> 97 -> 90-92 -> 98 -> 85-89 -> 99 -> pre-85 -> 2000. But 10 months to get to 2000 seems rather much, so, again, seems fine to me as it is.
Dear time travellers! Thank you for participating our first trip to 1995. We had:
· 22 time travelers
· 34 games played
· 9 games finished (so far)

I hope the thread will be still alive, but:
– I'll register new participants and new declared games only until May 31st 2021
– for those who want to complete the game, I'll update a game's status whenever it changes (no time limit to finish the game)
– and you can still bring interesting findings, post and discuss in 1995 forum – just keep it focused on 1995 :)

And let's look into our new destination – 1996!
Oh, seems I am supposed to finish that journey back in time, or was it the future or whatever. I had better get back to it then.

Just bumping to say thanks once again, OP....this idea of yours has been a good deal of fun so far. :)

Also, some updates:

1. my alternate time self already got back into Strife(didn't wanna restart that game as I already had a good deal of progress into it), but they haven't done much yet so they're gonna hold off posting pics/etc there until they make more progress.

2. Since the Hexen expansion was made on the borderline between 1995/1996 I may post pics of that one in either thread when I eventually get to it.

It seems that time travelling every month is a bit challenging. Therefore we'll make 1997 trip a bit longer. Some of us may have more time now (holidays) and others may be a bit more busy (holidays :). I think that we may use July and August as a test of a bit longer period. You may also use it (I will) to finish some games from 1995 and 1996, which we've already started but not finished yet.

Here's a link to newly started 1997 time travel.

Sounds good......that gives me more time to play more games. :)

As for me: I will be playing my 1996 games some more(already started them all at least once) and posting to the 1996 thread in time, and also the 1997 one as well.
(also finishing up Hexen for the 1995 thread, of course :))

Yeah. And I guess it may help to those, who want to participate, but don't want to make those time travelling 100% of their gaming time. Some of us have limited resources and I suppose even playing 1 game per month may be quite challenging, especially if you want to finish some RTS or RPG. 2-month interval makes more space for other games (even new releases – I don't believe, but I heard some people are interested in them;).

I was also considering opening 1995 and 1996 for new declarations once again. Do you think it's good idea or it'll bring only mess to these partly closed threads?
Just a crazy idea: Can we maybe do random time travel every once in a while? So not move on to the next year, but instead let fate (RNG) decide which year is next (anything from 1985 - 2020 would be fine for me).

Sounds like a good idea....that way time travelers can "revisit the past years and go on new adventures" if they so choose. :)

I'd be up for one random time travel once per year or so.....if the OP is up for it, that is.

Sound like an interesting idea, however I'm not sure how it may be merged with the current scheme of time travels. Should it be some separate thread for a random destination's travels or sth?

I thought that maybe after this year or after 1998 you could do a suprise year and let RNG decide where the time machine will take us. No need for an extra thread in my eyes. After that you can continue with 1999, 2000, 2001 and then do a surprise year again.

Sounds interesting :)
Time Travel #4 - random year challenge
I'm in. Let's see, if I'm able to find more daredevils for that ;)

It'd be interesting to hear other people's thought on this. Personally I think it would be cooler to just keep it sequential, if only because I'm patiently waiting for next month to use it as an excuse to finally play Outwars (1998) :) Other people may similarly be 'looking forward' to certain years.

While a different ordering of years (or even going back sometimes, to older than '95, maybe) wouldn't really change things, except for those who look forward to a certain year and "schedule" their gaming for it like Matewis just said, I think the original plan was all right and should be kept as it is. Didn't even think two months for a year was a good idea (even if I'm obviously not one that can finish a game in a month, but this sort of "challenge" doesn't seem to be for those like me in general).
Also a no to "reopening" past years. I mean, of course people who started games from those years and still play them are welcome to keep posting in the respective threads, right? So why make a note of "reopening" them? It just confuses the matter.
I was happy with the idea of a month by a year because it was like condense twelve months in one, but if more people can join, changes are welcome. I have games pending of 1995 and 1996 to play too but doesn´t matter, playing games of the same year with others playing the same or similar but always of the same year and to see similar things or differences, how technology improves and so on, maybe i´m wrong.

Also, the idea to wait for playing the next game of a saga waiting the correct month, for example i played GK2 and want to play GK3 so until october nothing, it does more for play it.
