IS SHE STUPID?!

This is 'Fools Rush In' territory. I don't think I can have sympathy at this point for a woman who willingly walks up to the big angry dinosaur and starts stabbing it with a butter knife.

Okok, maybe I'm being a bit cruel, but I honestly cannot imagine why anyone would willingly poke 4chan like this. I can't have sympathy for her when this turns bad, this is chasing martyrdom in a nutshell. I don't even know where to start with this, except my headache managed to come back with a fury of a thousand suns...damnit.

I haven't read the logs yet, but I do know that what was said was cherry-picked, as complete logs were floating around the GamerGate tag this morning.

Well 4chan sure as hell didn't fabricate her having sex with game journalists. Or her attack on Wizardchan. Or her doxxing people. Or her attack on TFYC. That's all proven to be by her. I don't know where she thinks she can go with this conspiracy bullshit.

As I've already said, I'd be shocked if she isn't a genuine psychopath. I'm sure she genuinely believes that there's nothing wrong with that much cheating, sleeping with reviewers and all the rest of it. But, she's got something coming if she thinks that they're going to drop this before she does.

They can get a bit kitten with a bird, if you catch my drift. Especially if it's a particularly deserving bird.

Ironicly, I think she's only helping the gamergate movement by doing this, as it's just adding more fuel to the fire that will keep it in public view.

I've been taking a look at 4chan. They are surprisingly serious about this whole thing, and are making a concerted effort to actually get results. I have no idea whether they will or not... I have very little experience with 4chan, and I have no idea how many of their "crusades" actually bear any fruit. But still...

It's having the opposite effect on me, which is quite sad. Even after all the horrible stuff it turns out she's done, I still felt bad for her having to (supposedly) enture sexual harassment. But now? Come one... there are only so many times you can punch a hornet's nest and still get sympathy for the stings. I mean, I certainly don't wish sexual harassment on her, but she's just acting DUMB now.

Speaking as someone who periodically has been a /v/ lurker/poster since the GOD EMPEROR DIO BRANDO /v/akistan empire stuff on eRepublik, anyone who thinks 4chan is the mastermind behind a giant conspiracy should probably have their sanity checked. Each board is like a faction, and each faction slapfights with each other continually, and the basis of everything is anonymity. So anyone can literally say anything they want to, then screen cap it and say OMG! LOOK WHAT THEY'RE SAYING IN 4CHAN!!!!11

All it proves is that people say screwed up stuff on 4Chan, which is the biggest "duh" thing I can think of, to be honest. 4Chan IS obviously involved, but so is the Escapist community, the reddit community, parts of the tumblr community, parts of neoGAF, etc, etc, etc. It's just gamers. There really isn't any leadership, aside from the people who have the loudest voices, like Adam Baldwin, or IA, or boogie2988, Jesse Cox or the things that TB said. Heck, even Pat the NES Punk was taking the gamers' side when he and Ian did a video about it.

Yes, I didn't intend to make anyone go to 4chan. Sorry if anyone went there because of me.

Oh she is definitely helping the cause at this point. With her being toutted as one of the champions and victims, I can't imagine what some people are thinking from this right now. Even better fact is that if she was in the chan, she should have stepped out and everyone could have been settled easily and a lot of the headaches possibly avoided.

As far as 4chan's crusades, honestly, they're not stupid. They did go after Scientology a while back and I'm sure that they can handle Zoe Quinn a lot easier then an entire group like that. I know this, I wouldn't fuck with 4chan, I wouldn't willingly poke the bear, and I consider myself to be a fairly intellegent person, cautious, but intellegent.

It just remains to be seen what happens this time.

I'd recommend buying stock in popcorn producing companies. This looks like it's going to go on for a while.

I have a bag of unpopped popcorn in my closet, and a bowl of fruit that will see a lot more nibbling on while I watch this. And of course, the company of my fellow goggers, because I don't even mind admitting that I'm being out debated here, it's amazing.

Call me crazy, but what Zoe is doing seems RATIONAL in the short run.

Think about it - what is her job? What does she do for a living? Write software? Make games?
As far as I know - she mostly gets money from the Internet. People pay her monthly on Patreon to exist.
As long as she can stay relevant, show everyone how much of a victim she is, the stream of money will trickle down her way. That's why 4chan's public "conspiracy" to be civil and oppose harassment sounds like such a scary thing. She NEEDS attention. It's in her best interest to make the hornets sting her. That's one way of looking at it; one that assumes that she is rational, cynical.
An alternative would be that she actually BELIEVES what she's saying and is simply mentally unstable. At some point in her life she probably got a lot of really vicious, undeserved crap... and now she's a lot more willing to see people "out to get her".
Either way - this is, undeniably, about a lot more than her now. She took advantage of opportunities that shouldn't have been there in the first place. We can't really stop all the Zoe Quinns of the world. We should instead have a healthy enough journalistic, cultural, and gaming environment to prevent the corruption on both ends...

I hope it takes off. Would be a huge relief to see some good come out of the shit storm.
Well, she admitted to the affairs, Tweeting that she fucked to get ahead. I believe she quickly took it down because I can't find an image of it. Anyway, it shows her as not the most stable of personalities. I'm not sure she knows what she's getting into.

Yeah, that's true. Monetarily, she'll benefit from stirring the pot constantly.

#gamergate and #notyourshield are not going away any day soon (in fact they are thriving despite some PR info war tactics thrown it's way). The journalist can say whatever they wish. They can hear the message and address the issue, respectfully disagree, or insult their player-bases character and intelligence and watch their subscribers and click stats go down, hard. Same thing with publishers. They can politely take a neutral stance, respectfully disagree, or allow their employees to insult their player-bases character and intelligences and see their game sales get curbed. People are not going to stand for being talked to like children anymore.

The future of this has a few things that may occur;

- Legislation occurs to regulate video games of "harassing" elements. Creativity will be stifled. Jack Thompson's video game violence argument gains new ground and games are also regulated for "violence"

- Gaming journalists as we know it change. All the big names are no longer trusted and new big names will come in.

- The industry takes measures to become more transparent (we are starting to see this shift).

- A self regulating body for the industry.

- We see a variety of games with different themes from different world views exist. May the best and greatest games survive.
