Gotcha, but I wasn't really surprised by it. It was just a throwaway comment reflecting on how 10 of the previous 12 posts or something like that were all about snowglobes. I guess my fake curiosity/surprise didn't translate all that well. I personally didn't pay much attention to any cards when they first came out but there has been a lot of discussion about these snowglobes because they do expire so I looked into what I had. I suppose if the snowglobes didn't disappear either like the summer cards, I'd have still been blissfully unaware of all this.

None, really. It's just something to show off in your user profile. And crafting the badge gives you experience towards your Steam level. Which is useless as well, because all that it does is increase your chances to get extra card drops. So we basically collect cards to complete sets to craft badges to get experience to raise our level for the purpose of ... getting some more cards.

It's a perfect exploit of the typical gamer's mindset. Steam is giving people the feeling of perpetualy progressing and "going forward" without ever actually giving them anything meaningful.

Collecting the cards can be fun, as I found out, especially if you have hundreds of them anyway, but there really isn't much point to the whole thing apart from that.

ahh. ok. that makes sense now. Thanks. If I was more invested in Steam I'd be all over that I think. But as it is STEAM isn't really a major part of my gaming I doubt I'd ever be interested enough to become invested.
