They are not even bothering to add discount to their titles on steam already even for sale, seeing as Disney went with the idea of remastering grim fandango for ps4 exclusively , i guess that's where their focus is consoles and mobile.

Has gog even indicated they are anywhere close to signing a huge publisher ?

Actually, Disney's focus is exclusively on mobile. For consoles they just license their IPs to whoever wants them (EA got Sar Wars), but they don't develop games themselves anymore, except for their Skylanders rip-off called Disney Infinity.

And to be honest i don't expect to see Disney here anytime soon. Disney doesn't give a flying fuck about non-mobile gaming.

SandyKoala: Do the Xwing / Tie Fighter combat sims even work on modern computer systems?
They would certainly be sweet to be able to play them again.
Anything (well nearly) can be made to work. I used DOS heavily back when these games came out and I couldn't throw away that knowledge if I tried. Pretty much it comes down to using the Mount command in Dosbox and then installing just like I would back in 1995. Seriously, knowing DOS makes this stuff trivial.

skeletonbow: Oh man... I had no idea those ever existed!
I'd have to double-check to get an exact amount, but I paid roughly $300 for all 4 collections in the boxes with all the manuals in very good condition (and Grim Fandango). Some are particularly expensive, like the 1st one, but I considered it to be a worthwhile investment since I take good care of my old games (and pretty much everything) and I'll actually play them.

GOG has spoken a bit about their efforts to woo several publishers, LucasArts in particular. Things were coming together when LucasArts sold Disney and that put everything on hold as companies take time to integrate, sort out legal assets and decide what they're going to do with them but GOG stated that they were still in dialogue about it and remained positively hopeful but that the timing of things was an unknown. The last comments they made about it that I'm aware of were in January I believe. Despite what else Disney might be doing with these assets right now I don't think it has any effect on the possibility of seeing the LucasArts games show up here because they certainly can do A+B+C+D and not A or B or C or D as some people interpret some news. In other words evidence of a game being worked on for some platform like PS3 or whatever is not evidence that the same game does NOT have a deal being worked out for say - coming to GOG or Steam, even in lieu of any public information about it either way.

GOG did state categorically though that they were close to getting LucasArts a couple of years ago, and that there were still ongoing discussions about it and things looked good to them. I'm sure they'd love to tell us a lot more either way, but due to the sensitive legal nature of such deals it might be more of a case of no-information for a long period of time and then waking up to a surprise news announcement of some games being added to the catalogue out of the blue.

All we can do is wait and hug the gaming news sites, GOG blog, etc. I guess and remain hopeful.

I have to admit though, the prospect of GOG launching GOG Galaxy - and LucasArts Star Wars games *simultaneously* has epic marketing potential! Just imagine this...

"A short time from now...
in a GOG Galaxy close close some day...
<blurb about Star Wars games coming to GOG>"

They do seem to be a bit like The Empire... and perhaps the GOG community is more like the Rebel Alliance. The Epcot Centre is the Death Star...

:)
I really, really wish GOG could get the LucasArts games! There are so many great ones! My personal favorite was Outlaws! It was a very innovative FPS with a spaghetti western theme.
Just going through old threads flagged as "favourite" to clear out dead threads and encountered this one. Looking back through other people's thoughts/comments as well as my own I have to say wow, we were assuming the worst but ultimately ended up getting much much more than we ever expected and no indications the party has ended.

Disney has turned out to be rather friendly towards DRM-free gaming and GOG.com in the end, thankfully our worst case fears did not prove to be true!
Three yays for Disney!
IT STINKS IN HERE!!!!
...like a fart across the glade....

I bought plenty though.
I'm still waiting for "Full Throttle" and "Day of the Tentacle" on GOG...
The Smell?

OH wait, looks like Dischord ninjad me there. :P

Aren't we all... :)

It makes a lot of sense though that a company has a certain number of developers to update/port old games to new platforms and work all of the kinks out, both on their own and/or in combination with efforts of gog.com and that they can't viably port 200 titles all at once and release them all on the same day. There are a lot of other reasons why that would be an economically bad decision also.

It makes the most sense to prioritize the work involved across all titles based on a combination of the amount of effort involved, the amount of investment to do the work, and the perceived projection of return on investment it might bring in, and do the work in batches, releasing a smaller subset of games periodically much as they have been doing. There are many benefits to doing this both for themselves and for gamers and their respective wallets. :) There is a certain air of excitement that many if not most feel when there's a new GOG headline of 2/4/6 new Lucasarts games released today, almost like a little kid at Christmas running to see what it is etc.

If they were to release 200 games all at once it'd be overwhelming and kind of like a fireworks show that has no show and just a super massive grand finale as the starter, setting them all off at once.

Due time...
