EnforcerSunWoo: I have my doubts concerning Blade Runner being freeware. Will have to look into that myself, but it seems unlikely since the license holder for Blade Runner and Westwood Studios (EA) would have to be involved to do so.
Sorry I meant abandonware not freeware.

Anyway, I'm not interested in downloading any of the games through other channels than GOG.

tfishell: The Suffering - published by Midway, made freeware by the U.S. Air Force(?)
Whaaa??
Railroad Tycoon might be freeware. It was released into the wild around 2006 but the original download link is no more. Can't even find it on a search a the new 2kGames site except in brief mentions on the forum. Not sure if that means it's been pulled from freeware status, or if they simply don't care to host it any longer. It can be found elsewhere, however I don't know the legal status of doing so.

MattyNOAA: Whaaa??
It was a promotion on FilePlanet between the US Air Force and Midway. Three games were given out for free including The Suffering, Area 51, and Rise and Fall: Civilizations at War. I thought that the promo included Psy-Ops as well, but I might be mistaken as I cannot find info backing that up.

It's still there:

I thought it was excellent (default contrast ratio might be a bit low though) but it get's incredibly difficult towards the end.
Just fyi, I tried to clean up the original post to make it easier to read and provide some links.

For the OMF fans, it's not good news but you can read some relevant info here - http://omf.justinoakley.com/viewtopic.php?t=312323

Yes, but I am conservative regarding the expression of my excitement. The hoards of golden beasts were nightmares. Furthermore I had abandoned playing because I didn't know how to move on (was looking for the exit, finished it 2-3 years agi). The only thing I disliked was the loud combat sounds, had to turn it off.

You actually finished it? Kudos to you man! The overwhelming odds on a late stage finally beat me, but admittedly my endurance was sorely tapped after that deep pit you had to rocket-jump (i think) out of.
Noctis IV isn't well voted, but I still think its a game deserving of more attention.

Oh, and Warzone 2100, but that has 200+ votes, and yet as outlined in said wish, has on open source version.

The one which closes the only opening in the ceiling once you are in and has many gun turrets? Yes, took a week.

That's the one! Got very close to rage quitting that part
Oh yes! I forgot about this, I think it's actually hosted on DotEmu or another service.

tfishell: The Suffering - published by Midway, made freeware by the U.S. Air Force ... ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Suffering_%28video_game%29

Looks like a great survival-horror game, not to mention it originally sold 1.5 million copies, but it seems like quite a bit of work to try to get the re-release rights. (Related: I believe Area 51, also a Midway game, was also released by some U.S. military branch as freeware.)

SCPM: Another Midway game was released as freeware, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy:

http://www.atomicgamer.com/games/5593/psi-ops-the-mindgate-conspiracy/files
The functionality is supposedly restricted to users from the U.S. and Europe, so download at your own discretion. I don't know what the deal with Midway is, though.

I'd personally love to have GOG put up Cave Story, Major Stryker, Bio Menace, and DBQuest. ;)
I can't say if these were ever released for free, but they were made available as adware by Midway, with DRM by Double Fusion. The company went tits-up a couple years back, so there's no real ads to be seen in the games, but the DRM remains (thankfully, the servers seem to remain, too). I've found workarounds for Area 51 and The Suffering, but they're probably not legal. Regardless, if the rights to these do get resolved and they get re-published, I doubt they'll be free.
