THANK YOU!!! Tried both solutions, and the second one worked for me! :D

Well... partially. It worked with a couple of games but it didn't with the one I was interested in the most: Pid. Interestingly, the games with which the gamepad worked well were games that came with installers, while Pid I got it in a Groupees bundle as a simple zipfile. Is it just bad luck, or can this have something to do with the gamepad not working?

JudasIscariot: Turok is Mac native as of today so perhaps the entry should be updated for Windows now or are the Mac and Linux Wine versions pretty close that what works for one will work for the other?
A volunteer! Let us know how you make out? Thanks.
Game: Soulbringer
Installer MD5: 65e95113604d6c680d907c7611019ffe setup_soulbringer_2.0.0.37.exe
WineHQ AppDB link: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4928

Distro: Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64bit
Kernel version: 3.19.0-58
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti
Graphics driver & version: Proprietary 364.19
Wine version(s) tested: Wine 1.9.10 via PlayOnLinux

Install notes: Requires mfc42
Run the game from/create a shortcut for "Soulbringer.exe"
How well does it run: Perfect
Details: Have only played for a short while, but there doesn't seem to be any issues. Tested with virtual desktop enabled.
Game: Sam & Max Save the World

Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti
Graphics driver & version: Proprietary 364.19
Wine version(s) tested: Wine Staging 1.9.10 via PlayOnLinux, CrossOver 15.1.0

Install notes: No additional libraries or special Wine settings needed unless you're using CrossOver or regular Wine, in which case you'll need to install d3dx9_36 (DirectX 9 Modern in CrossOver) as the game has rendering issues with those.
If you're using PlayOnLinux this one's kind of a hassle to get all the shortcuts set up (it could really use a launcher) - create shortcuts for SamMax101.exe up to SamMax106.exe
How well does it run: Almost perfect
Details: Have only tested that each episode starts & seems to run ok but it seems to work almost perfectly, and the WineHQ reports suggest that there shouldn't be any major issues either. The only issue I encountered is that on exiting the game PlayOnLinux complains about it crashing. Tested with virtual desktop and CSMT enabled.

eiii: I do not get that far. The game stops on the start screen (after the into movies), without getting to a menu. I use SoulbringeVCnoeax.exe. When I use the other exe files nothing happens at all. Is there a way to change the rendering mode from outside of the game?
The game comes with a launcher (I think it's just named "Launcher.exe") that I believe needs winetricks mfc42 to work.

In that utility, if you go to the "Video" tab, you'll be able to select the game's renderer.

Let us know how that works. Good luck!

Hmm. It's likely that the installers may have come with scripts that properly configured the game to recognize your gamepad. Have you tried another gamepad? Possibly one that supports DirectInput?
