Lifthrasil: What? THOSE are supposed to be Klingons? Did the 'creators' of Discovery even watch any of the previous Star Trek series or movies?

I can see why they pulled their trailer from youtube.
To be fair:

(DS9 crew time traveling to a TOS episode)

BTW: I find it hilarious how hard they tried to avoid white males in this "Discovery" thing.

There's quite some similarity between the Klingons of Into Darkness with those in the Discovery trailer.

Could they possibly be as the result of further genetic alteration or surgical alteration to counter the effects of the loss of their forehead ridges as seen in season 4 of Enterprise?

Well, those are the result of a failed klingon Experiment with the human Augment genome, trying to copy Khan & co. That's perfectly (retro-)explainable. But those Discovery Klingons look like they came from the planet of the apes.

OK. That may be an explanation.

Well, an explanation of some of it. Not of what the ridiculous things they are wearing :P I guess there might be some sensible eplanation for it all (further genetic modifications, members of a cult of some kind etc) but again, it all comes back to this needlessly being a prequel. If this was set 50 years after Nemesis instead of being annoyed by things like that I'd be intrigued, accepting of everything that looks new and different, because that's exactly what it should be then. With a prequel, and one set so close to the known events, they don't have much freedom without messing stuff up. Why didn't they just set this post-Nemisis or in the Kelvin timeline I'll probably never understand.

Meet the captain. So yeah, no need to bring this most annoying of pointless internet wars into this. Please. I know that argle bargle SJW monsters argle bargle nazis, but I'm sure there's a 4chan thread for that.

I will also never understand Hollywood's obsession with prequels and reboots. OK, the latter one can be guaranteed cash cows, depending on what it is they reboot. So I guess financially it might make sense. But prequels are often just stupid.

And reboots at least have the advantage of not being beholden to established continuity. That gives some degree of creative freedom while retaining a recognisible IP, it's a compromise I can get, and there were some really good reboots (Batman Begins, Casino Royale). Prequels are much harder to get right. And at least something like Enterpise had like a 100 years gap as a "safety margin" and genuinely unknown period to explore. Discovery has 10 years. Not even that, really. It's more like 7 years before The Cage.

Aww, you spoilered me, I'm currently at season 3.
It's just an excuse for the low budget Klingons in TOS anyway. ;)

It is, but they actually managed to make a solid story out of it. Almost all of season 4 of Enterprise was really good. I can't help but wish we could get that show to return for another season like Twin Peaks, Samurai Jack and X-Files. A season about Archer as an Admiral during the Romulan War could be pretty great.
A lot of FX, black female (probably lesbian) lead, some ancient artifact probably revealing some major threat to known races. I think that they wanted to make Mass Effect adaptation, but at the last moment decided that Star Trek will make more money.
It looks like they are trying to appeal to every major audience group, not caring about actual Trek fans. I never watched fan-made stuff, but now I'm strongly considering to begin.

LootHunter: black female (probably lesbian) lead,
How terrible! Here, comrade, I have something to help ease the pain!

Seriously, what the hell are people like you even looking for in STAR TREK of all things?

It's probably still quite America-centric...and tbh Star Trek's racial demographics weren't very credible in the previous series.
Oh, and btw

Yeah, it's like Europe, etc... never mattered and as if interracial breeding wouldn't be happening.
I imagine people from the far future to not try to keep some "American Spirit" alive and to have genes from all parts of the earth, then again I still mostly see all the parallel cultures in the melting pot I'm living in keeping to themselves due to universal racism (especially on the immigrant sides) but Star Trek always was supposed to be idealistic, so...
Heck, even T'Pol (non-human) looks like some American model with fake breasts which she most likely is.

Totally with you there. I liked Archer and his crew!
