Did you hear? Neverwinter Nights Diamond is FREE for the next 48 hours! It's the game that first introduced Bioware's powerful Aurora Engine and is still considered one of the most rich and well-realized RPGs set in the Forgotten Realms. The Diamond edition already includes the original campaign plus three official expansions released by Bioware, offering hours upon hours of old-school gameplay for D&D fans.

What you may not have heard, is that thanks to the versatility of the Aurora Engine and the game's devoted community, there are tons of cool fan-made mods out there that you can download and enjoy for free. Some take you to entirely different areas, some offer thrilling new adventures, some tweak the game's feel or gameplay, but they all serve to add incredible value to the game and help you customize or prolong your stay in Neverwinter Nights.

Here are some of our favorites:

1. The Aielund Saga
A truly epic adventure full of twists and turns set in the troubled Kingdom of Aielund that is under attack both from outside and inside forces.
Our own member Lilura has a very neat guide on how to get this mod up and running.

2. Elegia Eternum
Narrative-focused mod with a rather somber, occasionally twisted story and esoteric ambiance. A bit on the short side but with a lasting effect, due to the intense drama.
You can grab it from here.

3. The Rose of Eternity
Another story-heavy module that tells the heart-wrenching story of a timeless being, held prisoner in a mystical garden. The first two chapters are available over here with the creator moving on to the Dragon Age engine for the story's conclusion.

4. The Bastard of Kosigan
A gritty adventure set in an alternate history medieval Europe, starring a young man who exiles himself from Kosigan to avoid his villainous uncle.
Lilura once again has posted some pretty useful instructions on how to use this mod.

But these are just a handful of top shelf mods for Neverwinter Nights Diamond in a sea of great content that's just begging to be explored. And who better to help you navigate it than our awesome GOG.com community?
So those among you who have already played and enjoyed some of the high-quality mods out there, go ahead and share your best finds with us!

Neverwinter Nights Diamond is free until December 3, 10:59 AM UTC.

hairydangler: How do I check my party members inventory? How do I control them? I see their portraits on the right on my screen but the only control I have is a right click and then battle menu comes up. Maybe my mouse is glitching out like it did in the start menus? But dont I need to control their inventory and level up, skills and stuff?

<EDIT> Nevermind I figured out the how to get to parties inventory. Right click to battle menu and then click on more actions and then youll find it. Cool.

Taro94: As for controlling them, you can't. You can only issue general commands like "stay here", "follow me" or "attack".
Ah yes, NWN where I had a companion two, for all of five minutes each time, since they'd charge off into the distance every time and if you told them to stay here, they do it for 2 seconds then charge off into the distance.

Yes companions also eat up xp same with familiars and summons so really solo is better unmodified.

hairydangler: Im assuming for best results just avoid the main campaign and go for the modules instead?

Im gonna try out The Aielund Saga. Wish me luck Ive never even heard of modules before today. Im hoping this is a good place to start a game for a new character and new player?

The only other game Ive ever even altered or modded was Theme Hospital just yesterday.

Thanks for this thread and for the free game gog!
I wish Aielund Saga could have been my introduction to NWN... Instead, my intro was the OC. Coming off Baldur's Gate. So yeah, a huge disappointment.

Aielund Saga takes you from first lvl to about 38th. I think it's a flagship showcase for NWN because it appeals to a broad spectrum of ppl (classic D&D campaign), employs lots of custom content, has good pacing and a sweeping, epic scope with lots of different environments to explore. Can also be played in MP.

Well I started the Aieland Saga but had to go back to the OC at least for the tutorial and now Im in chapter 1 on the peninsula. I plan to go back to Aielund Saga but I want to get familiar with things first. I remade my character probably 4 times at first starting with a premade and then on to building my own. All that time and I still end up rocking a basic fighter specializing in halberd. My first character was a sorcerer but I decided I had no idea how to play or level up that character.

So its been slooow going. Especially with some technical issues Ive been having between NWN Diamond game, Windows 10 64bit, and GOG Galaxy.

With windows 10 64bit I recommend setting compatibility mode to windows xp service pk2 to avoid mouse left button not working. Also with the Galaxy client I recommend just starting the game from the .exe file located in the gog game folder for nwnd. I set it up on the start menu for easy access. Otherwise you might find your desktop icons and toolbar all messed up when quitting the game.

Depends on what experience you're looking for. If you're a minmaxer, sure, but I never really had any issues using familiars and summons, if anything it made the game easier and more fast-paced. I'd gladly trade an extra level I don't really need for avoiding two extra hours of slow combat or so. ;)

You think a fully buffed druid bear makes things slower?
That thing is even beast in pvp.

Not every spellcaster is a druid.
And such options are not viable on low levels.
Looks like I gimped my latest fighter build. Who wouldve thought the parry skill is useless for a fighter? I mean seriously. Its one of the class skills and the fighter is the recommended build for noobies who dont know whats what but then its so easy to pick useless class skills. Already put 4 or more points into this before I noticed.

So Ive done some research and have my whole build planned out this time, which is what I usually like to avoid. Im gonna rock an unarmed Monk. Can she be a she? A meticulousl planner she is. LOL.

Do not mistake NWN modules with other games' mods. Mods alter the game, modules add to it. ;)

As a rule of thumb, you can Install as many modules as you wish and they won't interfere with each other. The notable exception, and the one I've never experienced yet, would be two modules using hakpaks (libraries of resources) named the same, but with different content. I wouldn't worry about this hypothetical situation, though.

There is lot of problems with parry.

Really some skill points wasted isn't that huge of deal just stop relying on parry.

The concept of parry works for real real real low AC but you shouldn't want to try for low ac.
Yeah I havent completely given up on my fighter character yet. Im knee deep with him in chapter one of the OC. However Im also getting slowly sucked into the Aielund Saga Act1 with my new character, a female unarmed monk.
Why isn't community mod PRC (which brings huge amount of PnP material into NWN) not even mentioned around here?

P.S. Can't post links for some reason. Here's full name for this mod: Player Resource Consortium's PRC Pack

The sad truth about fighters is that fighter doesn't really need any skills aside from Discipline.

You could use cheatcodes to take whatever XP you have now and give it back allowing you to relevel. Unless you put some parry during character creation.
Im done with that fighter character is what Ive decided. Im hell bent for leather with my monk character in the Aielund Saga Act I. Basically getting my ass handed to me up until level 6 when I think my character is finally fighting in anger.

This is why I bought two classic games on gog today. Just I like that You are doing something for community and releasing some games for free.
