Did you hear? Neverwinter Nights Diamond is FREE for the next 48 hours! It's the game that first introduced Bioware's powerful Aurora Engine and is still considered one of the most rich and well-realized RPGs set in the Forgotten Realms. The Diamond edition already includes the original campaign plus three official expansions released by Bioware, offering hours upon hours of old-school gameplay for D&D fans.

What you may not have heard, is that thanks to the versatility of the Aurora Engine and the game's devoted community, there are tons of cool fan-made mods out there that you can download and enjoy for free. Some take you to entirely different areas, some offer thrilling new adventures, some tweak the game's feel or gameplay, but they all serve to add incredible value to the game and help you customize or prolong your stay in Neverwinter Nights.

Here are some of our favorites:

1. The Aielund Saga
A truly epic adventure full of twists and turns set in the troubled Kingdom of Aielund that is under attack both from outside and inside forces.
Our own member Lilura has a very neat guide on how to get this mod up and running.

2. Elegia Eternum
Narrative-focused mod with a rather somber, occasionally twisted story and esoteric ambiance. A bit on the short side but with a lasting effect, due to the intense drama.
You can grab it from here.

3. The Rose of Eternity
Another story-heavy module that tells the heart-wrenching story of a timeless being, held prisoner in a mystical garden. The first two chapters are available over here with the creator moving on to the Dragon Age engine for the story's conclusion.

4. The Bastard of Kosigan
A gritty adventure set in an alternate history medieval Europe, starring a young man who exiles himself from Kosigan to avoid his villainous uncle.
Lilura once again has posted some pretty useful instructions on how to use this mod.

But these are just a handful of top shelf mods for Neverwinter Nights Diamond in a sea of great content that's just begging to be explored. And who better to help you navigate it than our awesome GOG.com community?
So those among you who have already played and enjoyed some of the high-quality mods out there, go ahead and share your best finds with us!

Neverwinter Nights Diamond is free until December 3, 10:59 AM UTC.

tzeentch177: I don't remember there being 3 expansions tho.
There aren't. Either they actually meant "3 campaigns", or they count the "Kingmaker" Premium Modules pack as third expansion.

WerelynxNWN: Regarding Premium mods status: they were available for download from Bioware site some time ago, might still be available there, but I don't have the links on hand.
They were available for download as backups for everyone who had bought and lost them, but they still required authentification. At one point, the authentification DRM stopped working and you could play them even if you hadn't bought them, but it was never cleared whether that DRM was removed intentionally or whether it was connected to a hacker attack on the Bioware sites that happened shortly before. Bioware *might* have secretly been okay with everyone getting the Premium modules for free, after they ended up in legal limbo, but they never officially said so, and they probably wouldn't have had any rights to say that or to even distribute the games. So, yes, they were available for download and worked without authentification, and they still might be out there somewhere, but it was never officially sanctified to play them for free.

Fortuk: I don't remember these. Were they made relatively recently?
I think the series started in 2009, I also remember Chapter 2 getting released a few years after but I never got to playing it. Chapter 3 is probably rather newish?

Another more recent trilogy that's recommendable is Gladiatrix by FallynRayne. Be aware that it's only for female characters and contains some explicit romance and sex stuff, but it's also a great story-telling adventure (maybe a bit in the vein of A Dances with Rogues, not in terms of gameplay but tone).

Kingmaker was absolutely an expansion ("expansion" does not automatically mean "campaign"); unfortunately, it was also the name of one of the modules composing the expansion, which made it very confusing for me when I was first researching what was in NwN Diamond back before I bought it. I really wish they had picked a different name for that expansion, rather than calling it after one of the modules it contained.

What's that? Full frontal poetry? Hardcore hand-holding? =P

You don't want to know :|
Since search tags were mentioned, you could always tackle some original PnP adventures.

Im assuming for best results just avoid the main campaign and go for the modules instead?

Im gonna try out The Aielund Saga. Wish me luck Ive never even heard of modules before today. Im hoping this is a good place to start a game for a new character and new player?

The only other game Ive ever even altered or modded was Theme Hospital just yesterday.

Thanks for this thread and for the free game gog!

The first one isn't that great, no. But the campaigns that come after the first one are still very much worth playing. You don't need to play any of them at all though, as NWN is an engine more than anything.

What????
The main campaign's are great...

When you get bored with same classes and characters with modules

Don't forget one of my favorite mods.
http://www.athasreborn.com/prc/manual/

Has 'patcher' that works with majority of modules including all officials except preinium because they are encrypted.
Rest that have issues you can install it manually to fix.

Hopefully with huge influx of new players we can get work on converting PRC to work with community patch properly.

I'm sorry if this has been answered before, but am I understating correctly that some of the Premium Modules that were released by BioWare are not in the Diamond Edition? If so, why would they be excluded? Seems like all of the other official DLC is there...?
I've already got the disc version but this is a nice addition to my gog library.

Legal issues, I guess. The three missing Premium Modules were only ever sold separately online with DRM on them, while the included Kingmaker pack was available DRM-free in retail versions. At some point Atari stopped the production and then the selling of Premium Modules, because commercially it wasn't a success, also because you can get lots of better community modules for free, and then Bioware was bought by EA. Now it's unclear who owns the rights to the missing Premium Modules, and the publishers don't really seem to care either, since they don't have anything to gain by finding out.

te_lanus: Infinite Dungeons is quite fun, the dungeon changes each time you enter it, I normally play this, with a self imposed perma-death rule, makes a great dungeon crawler
I like Infinite Dungeons very much, but couldn't stand the imbalanced loot generation. You can find overpowered items so easily, the game becomes boring soon after starting it.

I created a mod to remedy this issue, if anyone's interested, you can find it here:
https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/other/patch/infinite-dungeons-no-random-loot-mod-balance-mod

Here's the important part. I saw people wondering if the latter three premium modules not included in the GOG package can still be found and played.
Yes! Yes, they can! You can find their installers here:
https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/bioware-premium-modules

Note, however, that you need this tool to get around their server authentication requirement:
https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/other/tool/premium-module-offline-authenticator-generator

To anyone confused: premium modules are official DLC for NWN. The Diamond Edition includes three out of six such DLCs, with the latter three being now available only unofficially. Ironically, these three officially unavailable premium modules are the more ambitious ones and better overall. If you intend to play through all official content of NWN, make sure to give these modules a try, as well!

Here's the list of all premium modules:
-Kingmaker
-Witch's Wake
-Shadowguard
-Pirates of the Sword Coast
-Infinite Dungeons
-Wyvern Crown of Cormyr
Chapter 1 was released in 2008, Chapter 2 in 2012, Chapter 3 in 2016.
Series is projected to Six, all told. Labor of love. Mastery of craft. As good as RPGs get.
How do I check my party members inventory? How do I control them? I see their portraits on the right on my screen but the only control I have is a right click and then battle menu comes up. Maybe my mouse is glitching out like it did in the start menus? But dont I need to control their inventory and level up, skills and stuff?

<EDIT> Nevermind I figured out the how to get to parties inventory. Right click to battle menu and then click on more actions and then youll find it. Cool.

As for controlling them, you can't. You can only issue general commands like "stay here", "follow me" or "attack".

If you don't like clicking through menus you can also assign these commands to your hotbar, or memorize the shortcut combinations on the keyboard. I don't remember what they were but there is a menu for PC speech that you can call by pressing a key (C? or V?), and you can navigate through that menu via other keys. That way you can get your PC to say e.g. "Follow Me" by pressing three keys in a row (just as an example, not sure if these would actually do anything: "V-W-A"). You can also make your PC say all the other things that have their own voice recording, but some are just for flavor and won't cause your companions to react. Anyway, this might sound inconvenient at first but once you know these things by heart, it's much quicker to press "V-W-A" in battle than to click through the menus, and you can do it while giving other commands with the mouse, e.g. move you PC to a certain spot, command your companions to follow you at the same time.
