odinfan: I'd beg to differ. The Japanese would be playing on their consoles, and the minority wouldn't make much of a fuss so they can be ignored. You have to realize they're (Steam and GOG) not that big over there.

How many concurrent Japanese make up the Steam millions?

mqstout: I don't know about the newer consoles, but the PS3 had almost no region locked games (I think it was only one total?). The 360, on the other hand, was totally region locked.
I thought on both consoles it was up to the publishers to determine whether or not to region lock it. Just most chose to on the 360, while most did not on the ps3.

IIRC, Mushihimesama Futari, Muchi Muchi Pork/Pink Sweets combo pack, and the european version of Dodonpachi Resurrection are some of the 360 games that aren't region locked while Persona 4 Arena is the region locked PS3 game you're thinking of.
They don't even put all their games on Steam, what makes you think they'd put it DRM free?

Even the Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 is doubtful to be on Steam.
I hate to agree with all the negativity but it's true.. :/ We probably won't be seeing any of these games for a long longgg time, if that. If anything, a release on the wiiU or a 3DS handheld, even vita or PS4. It's all about supporting Japan first.

mqstout: Has GOG ever reached out to Tecmo Koei about wooing them away from DRM-locks and Steam? There's a new Nobunaga's Ambition game coming out in the fall, that would be great to be able to buy -- the company's doing more and more with Steam lately, so it might be good to approach them.

Yes, I realize they're a Japanese company, but...

Well till now I do not remember seeing a Japanese GoG user........

Bigs: Shit PC ports, overpriced games, crapton of (extremely overpriced) DLC

No thanks
this. compared to western software, japanese stuff are still rather overpriced, and they have legions of fanboys who MUST ALWAYS BUY ON THE FIRST DAY OF RELEASE!!!!!!111 (even older games can still sell for original prices in japan.)

and yeah... traditionally, japan never cared about foreign markets since their the 2nd biggest consumer market in the world and still is? japan maybe small but they still spend a fuckton more than any asian country except china. and china is more likely pirate everything.

I can count the Koei-Temco games I'd be interested in on one hand.

1. Rygar.
2. Aerobiz Supersonic.

...Okay, I could lose several fingers, at that. Also, they lose massive points for involvement with Metroid Other M.

Why? The story was kinda shit but the gameplay was fun.

A: It was only an okay action game.
B: You could have stripped the game of the Metroid branding and nobody would have noticed.

Fair enough.

C: Samus is 6'3" and yet she somehow ends up shorter than the rest of the staff and has to 'concentrate' to keep her mechanical wonder of a power suit on in Other M. What kind of doofus would make armor that falls off if you aren't thinking about it staying on?
So a new Nobunaga's Ambition is released on Steam, today.

Still waiting for Koei coming on gog. Well, someday.
Do Do Do Doo Doo Doo!
Do Do Do Doo Doo Doo!
Dwiiiiing.....

Some 30-40 year old is reading this and laughing, I promise. :P
I've been playing their games since Dynasty Warriors 4 and would happily buy just about anything they decide to bring to GOG. Dynasty Warriors 8 did well on Steam at least. Doesn't seem like it would hurt them to test the waters here with it.
Dynasty, Samurai and Orochi warriors, would be a great addition in gog... Come on, gog...
