Looks like Firefly Studios finally deemed the gaming public to be worthy enough to take a peek what SC2 will look like.

Yup, sure looks like Stronghold Crusader alright. Please be good!
PLEASE BE GOOD
I'm trying not get my hopes up... Stronghold 2 and 3 were rather terrible, unfortunately.
Here's hoping Firefly finally "nail it" this time.

The project just barely started but we'll see what happens!

They mention GOG in their video, giving it credit for helping the indie community.
Wait what, they're crowdfunding it? I've never even heard of 'Gambitious' before, why aren't they using Kickstarter?

Crosmando: ...why aren't they using Kickstarter?
Pretty much my thought since they first announced SC2 when they said they were going to use Gambitious. Maybe because Kickstarter didn't have a Euro/British option at the time? *shrug*

I'd expect it to meet its funding goal nonetheless, but I imagine it'd get much better results with Kickstarter. I wouldn't be surprised if they accepted late pledges though like so many other projects.

I very much hope this will be coming to GOG, even though only Steam is mentioned thus far on their project page.

So, would anyone with a twitter account please ask them what the chances are of the game coming to GOG? (It'd be silly of me to create one just for this purpose)

Just looked over the possible Steam features I overlooked the first time around, and so far, not so good. It does sound like they'll be making a concentrated effort in tying it into Valve's platform.
Gah! Guess I just created a Twitter account for no good reason, as I was just perusing the 'ask a question' section of the project page, and somebody already asked whether the game was going to be Steam-only? The reply:

The game is definitely built with Steam in mind, with the kind of cool features that entails, but we haven’t confirmed whether or not the game will appear on other platforms. Right now we’re just concentrating on making a great game and keeping you guys updated on our progress.
Make of that what you will. Regarding the funding front it's going slowly, obviously, since none of the gaming sites seem to have caught on yet. Still, almost 4% out of $133k isn't all that bad considering it just popped up with little fanfare.

Edit: Well, since I now have the damn twitter thing I decided to spam RPS, PC Gamer, Joystiq, and Eurogamer with the news. Just in case.

Edit edit: Having that twitter thing made it ridiculously easy to sign up to the Gambitious site, so I badgered them there directly, asking about a possible GOG/DRM-free option. After all, they ought to know that some people would prefer that.

Well, here's the reply I got from them:
We do indeed have a great working relationship with GOG! That said since we are building the game with Steam integration in mind (achievements, workshop support, cloud saves, voice chat etc) this means releasing a DRM-free version of the game isn't as straight forward as we would like.

We're not saying this could never happen, but if it did it is unlikely to happen at launch. Also - As with all questions about release in different formats and on different platforms it depends on how well the game sells.
Yup, unfortunately it sounds like it's Steam or GTFO. =/

Well, fuck you too then. Especially nasty after GOG gave special treatment to promoting the HD re-releases of SH and SHC.
Yeah, I actually liked Stronghold 2 (well, it was the first one I played); but I've heard reliable accounts of what a colossal mess Stronghold 3 became.

Everyone has the chance to redeem themselves, but we've not got an excellent track record going here.
I love Stronghold, Crusader, and Legends. I liked SH 2 until it became more frustrating than fun, and I bought 3, checked it out once and that was it. The new one looks good but I hope it plays more like the originals.

My thoughts exactly.

I've always wanted to play that. Seems like it ought to be a great setting for this type of gameplay. Unfortunately, S2/L are still under 2K's ownership, meaning Steam-only and only available via the collection these days.

I use twitter mainly to ask indie devs random questions so it's not a total lose ;)
