So they give the chaps who bought on Steam 2, Legends, 3 and now Crusader 2 yet say fuck you when it comes to HD patches and yet are saying fuck you for every other Stronghold despite HD patching the GOG versions
Are they confused as to who they give shits about?
I may have come across as slightly more negative than I thought. While I may be somewhat disappointed that SC2 may be Steam-only, it will not stop me from backing the project. I am quite looking forward to this, in fact.

I just wish Firefly was more aggressive about advertising their crowdfunding campaign as I've yet to see any mention of it on any of the bigger gaming websites. The current numbers are pretty decent in what amounts to word of mouth only, but I'm pretty sure they could be doing a whole lot better if they had some good coverage.

Just manually apply the HD patch, it even makes the Steam version DRM-free.

mistermumbles: Well, here's the reply I got from them:

We do indeed have a great working relationship with GOG! That said since we are building the game with Steam integration in mind (achievements, workshop support, cloud saves, voice chat etc) this means releasing a DRM-free version of the game isn't as straight forward as we would like.

We're not saying this could never happen, but if it did it is unlikely to happen at launch. Also - As with all questions about release in different formats and on different platforms it depends on how well the game sells.

mistermumbles: Yup, unfortunately it sounds like it's Steam or GTFO. =/
Well....that killed my interest very quickly.
Well, looks like Firefly may have to try another attempt at this since they're not even halfway to the funding goal with one day left. It didn't help that the campaign got virtually no coverage by any of the gaming sites. It would behoove them to go on Kickstarter for round two just because I'm fairly certain they would have made their goal easily if they'd done that to begin with. Silly kniggets.
Okay then. Looks like SC2 is still going ahead full 'Steam' (=P) for an early '14 release despite of failing its crowd-funding campaign, but some content may not make it for its initial release.
IT LIVES!!! Well, yeah, sort of. Release is supposedly sometime this summer. Looks okay. So far, so Stronghold. Though I must say it really looks like they're just using an updated Stronghold 2 engine. *shrug*

Honestly I don't mind the S2 engine.

I just hope that this really is Stronghold Crusaders with a 3D engine more than anything else. That game got all the elements of the Stronghold series right (barring the lack of wonderful wooded and green fields). It had all the features from Stronghold along with a good AI for skirmish and a faster citizen recruitment to help speed up the game pace (the original stronghold had a very slow restoration of civilians and that could be a major pain in the game).

All they have to do is not fail like in SH2 where they made maps smaller and made the number of castle buildings greater. In fact Stronghold Legends fixed most of those issues before breaking them against a stone wall by messing the balance up significantly with the fantasy armies (fun just broken as heck).

SH3 was just a disaster in thinking that they could take out some key features and go back to the roots of an old game - all coupled to an unfinished product on launch (wolves do not run through solid walls!) .

Really just give me SHC in 3D. Add a few new units and buildings - upgrade the AI - make maps bigger and we should be good to go.
Just noticed this in the 'Coming soon' section of Steam. Still only mentioned 2014 though, no specific date.
If it's not on GoG I am not buying it!

Thanks for the update on your purchase decisions, if a few more days have passed without anyone necrobumping this thread it would have died forever...
