FrodoBaggins: Since this is a steam problem, have you asked about this on the steam forums?
That's another Steam problem, they chuck your ass out if you are critical of them in their forum. :P

Yes, I mentioned it on Steam and got confirmation from others that there is no way around it. Got some useful suggestions as were also provided here of converting to gems, selling, etc.

For those who have never used the Steam forums though, I can save you a lot of trouble by saying that they are generally pretty low quality. Generally few people respond to things at all, and it's not generally particularly helpful. When someone is looking for an answer for something, you sometimes get some useful feedback but more often than not just dozens more people have the same problem and join the discussion to add their own data to it. That's not a bad thing, but frequently no answers ever show up at all. After years of using Steam I've simply concluded that their forums are simply not of very high quality and that even when there are some exceptions, the general rule is that answers and community spirit are sorely lacking.

That's why people often talk about such things on GOG's forums. GOG's forums are not limited or restricted to talking only about things that directly relate to GOG.com and GOG's games. On any given day here a large percentage of discussions have nothing to do with GOG itself, and often nothing to do with gaming either. However, GOG's forums are chock full of gamers that play games on a variety of gaming platforms including Steam, many of whom may experience the same issues and have knowledge about problems with the service that they can share.

It might also be worth noting that there is a GOG.com group on Steam, I'm not sure if it is an official GOG.com group or if some user created it themselves, but whether official or unofficial it is another example of cross-pollination of common interests across what ultimately amounts to a form of social networks.

There are at least 3 GOG groups on Steam, not counting the GOG Gift Club ones for Steam Gifts. All of them are unofficial ones.
I tried to start with the steam guard, now i can´t access my account.

If you read the forums you'd know that's nonsense, there have been critical threads on this topic since it started.

skeletonbow: Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that Valve is trying to solve a real world problem of people running trading scams and hacking people's accounts and whatnot. I get that, and having protection against that is good. But making it a mandatory requirement to own a cell phone or tablet in order to use the service is completely ridiculous. What's next, I have to log into my games themselves with a cell phone in order to play them on my PC?
You're looking at this wrong imo. They implemented a measure to poison the well for hijackers, and if you happen to be able to really protect your account with the mobile authenticator, then you get the option to bypass it.

Imo they should've just put a blanket 3 day hold for everyone for a month or two first, then people would've received the mobile authenticator as an 'out' a whole lot better probably. Now people are focusing on the mobile being the only way when really the change is about combatting hijacking. They didn't have to give people a way to bypass it. Heck, removing trading alltogether was even considered at some point (bulk of traffic is already through the market anyway). This was a compromise to keep trading in.

This way, if a RAT hijacks your computer, either they get blocked by the mobile authenticator, or the owner has 3 days to notice their items are being traded away. Either way it'll be a lot more difficult to profit from what was the most common way of hijacking people lately.

I'm sorry Pheace; calm down and put the knife away. I meant no harm. :D

blotunga: Well, I can't use the market for the next 23 days because I haven't bought anything them directly for a year. Because their prices are crap. I rather buy bundles.
Been there, bought CS:GO on sale in early December because I finally had a connection with lots of data, then a couple of days later then horrible revolver was added, then a couple of days later I got a case drop.. the revolver one.. and after ready up on this stuff I discovered it was kind of pointless and went to sell it. I was worth $1.77 when I got it but I found out since I hadn't bought anything for 2 years I had to wait 21 days to sell it.. It was then worth $0.18! Fantastic. Still it's at least 3 times the price of anything else I've sold.

skeletonbow: Steam's user interface tells you that to avoid this problem you can use "mobile authenticator" and to make sure you have confirmations enabled. That's just fantastic.... If you own a cell phone or mobile tablet. I do not own either of them. I am gaming on a PC and a PC only. I just want to use my PC and do everything regarding Steam, gaming, trading etc. on Steam in Steam.

I'm not going to go and buy a tablet or a cell phone just to install some stupid app to "authenticate" myself to trade useless 8 cent "trading cards". This is ridiculous.
Well, first of all, their delay system today is 15 days if you haven't had Steam Mobile Auth installed for last 7 days. I think 15 days of holding trades is WAY TOO MUCH. However, I think you as a person not owning Android or iOS are a minority these days. They're aiming for a majority, just like every other commercial company out there.

I do have a solution for you which is not perfect, but can help you if you don't own any of mobile devices. FInd an Android emulator (Bluestacks is the most well known) and download your Steam mobile auth on PC. To do this, you will only need a PC, Bluestacks (free) and a Gmail account for Play Store (free) to download mobile auth (free). When you download it, you will need to log in with your Steam credentials and you're good to go. Setting Mobile Auth to work will also ask of you to enter additional five digit code that will pop up on auth when you're login in (two step verification, basically) and you will need to approve all the trades via application. After seven days of constant use (you don't need to keep it running all the time, just don't delete it), your account will be validated for instant trades and purchases.

Hope this helps!
a) install VirtualBox,
b) then grab Android-x86 and install in virtual machine.
c) You don't need google account to download and install Steam Mobile.
d) Take your time to farm cards and be ready to waste several hours on confirming every bloody card you're going to put on the market ; )
You can use Steam Desktop Authenticator or WinAuth. Disclaimer: haven't tried either.

skeletonbow: ... I completely understand that Valve is trying to solve a real world problem ...
Hmm, I kind of doubt that. Steam trading cards don't solve any real world problem but rather create too many to be worth the hassle and that's why I just avoid them like the plaque - problem solved.

Agreed, that would've been a silly argument, if he had actually made it.

For Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobile you can use the Unofficial Steam Authenticator, also I'm never use it, so I cannot say if it is reliable or not.
