skeletonbow: ... I completely understand that Valve is trying to solve a real world problem ...

Trilarion: Hmm, I kind of doubt that. Steam trading cards don't solve any real world problem but rather create too many to be worth the hassle and that's why I just avoid them like the plaque - problem solved.
I know what Steam trading cards created. About $50 for me so I can buy more games. Therefore I consider it a win.
Had to go through similar recently.

I had a load of cards (18ish?) to sell, stuck them all for sale, but had to verify every single one, then got the email to verify, which took me back to the same page to tell me it was verified. Complete fucking waste of time.

After that, got told would be on hold for 2-3 weeks before going "for sale", by which point, they may be worth more but there`s fuck all I can do by then.

2-3 weeks later, a pop up on steam keeps appearing every half hour or so, before I finally stop clicking "x" & click "verify email". Low & behold, verify my email & ta-da, I get the pennies from the sold cards.

So, basically, they were holding that money until I verified my email, despite me having used that same email for years.

I have no intention of giving them my phone number, just so that it could get hacked/sold/posted publicly etc.

Anyhoe, fuck steam!!

P.S. Apparently you can use google authenticator instead of a mobile, for those that want to.
What is the point of all this card trading shenanigans?

You can sell the cards (steam gets a cut) & with the pennies, you can buy more steam games/emoticons/wallpapers etc.
One boring day, I decided to sell my Steam inventory to a trader willing to send me a DRM-free anything down my way. I found that person soon-ish, and I was eager to login to trade off my whole inventory. Say goodby-

Then Steam told me that I cannot fulfill this trade. Not without waiting a whopping 14 days for the trade hold to finish. One of the easiest ways to screw a paying customer is to tell them to wait for your support response within 14 days. Now imagine my embarrassment as a trader.

In the very end? I sucked it up. I ended up picking my Android phone, searching Steam on the Google Play Store against my own will, and downloading a mediocre app so I can activate some freaking mobile authenticator. And activated it, I did. Now back to trad-

I reread the text again, which still insisted for me to wait. It said that since I haven't been using mobile authenticator for seven days straight, this trade will be held for 14 days.

Yeah, I also had to wait against my own will. Eventually the trade never came to fruition, as the Humble Bundle key I got included only a Steam key and was mistaken for being a DRM-free game. The trade was cancelled and I returned disappoint. I'm waiting for the day I get rid of my inventory, and the Steam app off my phone once and for all. Valve has meddled too much with my personal affairs, and I'm very impatient, especially to give them the boot.

DalekSec: For Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobile you can use the Unofficial Steam Authenticator, also I'm never use it, so I cannot say if it is reliable or not.
I'd like to use it because these cards really are nic epocketchange. But I'm really afraid of actually losing my account to some scam. How legit is this thing for example? User reviews seem positive at least but still seems risky to put your account info into some unofficial app.
Holy thread necro Batman. I posted this in January, it's May.

Strictly speaking steam isn't selling them, the people are. It's one of the things you get from finishing sets of Steam cards.

I don't partake in anything Steam. And I can scarcely wrap my head around steam trading cards. Emoticons... I can't. I just... what the hell is wrong with you people? Is watching 10 hours of keyboard cat to productive? You had to come up with trading emoticons?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, in world where "The Emoji Movie" is a thing that is actually happening.

These are the ones I have.

True, they are kind of pointless, but they`re just for random chat with cronies in game. Although some decorate their profile pages with loads of them too.

And if we know anything at all, it's that Steam is not people.

Well, trying to reconcile Steam with " the people", sounds to me like a 5 years joke from good old GDR ( DDR) .

(3 years jail for the one telling it, 2 for anyone laughing )
