Whats the trick with changing the steam text or api files? I saw some ppl using a nosteam command in some places.

Actually, the game doesn't work without Steam if it says it's a Steam link.
And someone mentioned it's weird how many games that I try end up showing that message, and I'm sure I did the first time setup and I didn't make any mistakes in the methods mentioned.

Also it seems Square Enix tends to add denuvo. Then remove at a later point. But they dont completely make their games drm free. Wish Square Enix would constantly release games drm free or on gog. Deus Ex Mankind Divided seems to be a one way scenario :(

Regarding The Wonderful 101. I just tried to run the game without Steam, and the game won't start. This includes using the steam_api.txt trick and trying to launch the game with the "-nosteam" command line argument.

2 more games tested. Both tests were done in Windows 10.

First, I tested them in a computer that doesn't have and never had Steam installed.

- Bladed Fury (app ID 927250): Says it's a Steam link. Neither steam_appid.txt or the -nosteam argument changed that.

- AI: The Somnium Files (app ID 948740): The game does open, but it gets stuck loading infinitely in the first screen. It already comes with a steam_appid.txt file and the -nosteam argument didn't help that.

Since AI: The Somnium Files is the second game I ever got the infinite loading situation, I tried running both games in the computer I did the first time setup, but with all Steam executables renamed and Steam's installation folder moved to another directory.

Bladed Fury didn't even open, no errors at all.
AI: The Somnium Files showed the same behaviour of loading infinitely.

After putting Steam back in its installation folder, changing back the executables' names and starting Steam, both games opened normally.

Lastly, I don't know if all the Steam link errors I got where caused by some sort of mistake, but Bladed Fury's specific case appears to be related to its DRM.

Can Sudeki (app ID 233350) be run without Steam?

Story of Seasons Friend of Mineral Town and Harvest Moon Light of Hope both need steam drm to run. Tested both. Did not use the nosteam command line trick though.

As it's not on the list - https://steam.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games - I don't think it can.

Also, a request: Let's limit information here to games that have been tested and found to be DRM-free. I appreciate the effort going into testing, but there's a lot of information to sift through when we post every single game that we test, even if they end up not being DRM-free; I think we're all assuming that Steam games will not be DRM-free unless we see them listed here or on the wiki, after all. Again, thank you to everyone contributing to the thread, let's just keep focused on the DRM-free games (unless, of course, someone requests a check of a certain game, which is absolutely fine to report on).

Looks like Control: Ultimate Edition is out on Steam now.

Is it DRM-FREE on Steam?
Can it be ran without Steam?

Or...does anyone know if it's wrapped w/ Steamworks/CEG? Any other 3rd party junk?

Pcgamingwiki has Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night listed as DRM-free through Steam; can anyone confirm this? Pcgamingwiki is usually really good about that.

One other thing you can try is renaming the main Steam.exe, so it's impossible for Steam to launch with the game. If Wonderful 101 launches that way, then it's DRM-free (just remember to put Steam.exe back the way it was so you can play your games again).

I've already tried that, and the game just doesn't start. That is while I use the "-nosteam" command line argument and the steam_api.txt trick.

Don't know about Steam but on Epic it still is DRM-free ... and as it has been said, it is coming to GOG as well.
