Jonathan_The_Gamer: Half-Life is perfectly playable in Xash3D engine.

Too bad Opposing Force and Blue Shift has some bugs.

This is awesome. I've been looking for a way to run it without Steam.

Geralt_of_Rivia: I'm sure muntdefems will tell us how it runs in Linux by tomorrow. :-) That information isn't in the Wiki yet.
I'm afraid I won't, since the game isn't available for Linux, and it won't in the future either.

It runs pretty well on Wine, though. :)
Odd that the Source version of Half Life 1 (and HL2 forward) runs without Steam but not the original. It's also unintentionally funny when you consider Steam was ushered in mostly as HL2's DRM and yet doesn't require it past download.

Maybe it was only enforced early on and later updates removed the requirement for whatever reason but I can't complain, as it's nice to have it backed up DRM-free.
The upcoming title Mordhau is another game that might be client free even though it is available exclusively through Steam. The developer has told me when I messaged him on Kickstarter that the only DRM he has in place is Steam so I think that means you only need to download it and you no longer need it to log in. From what he said I'm 80 percent sure he meant it's client free because he said something along the lines of people consider Steam to be DRM and he did say it has no addition "DRM" However, the game is meant for multiplayer.
Stories: The Path of Destinies is free-to-keep on Steam, and it runs OK without the client.

Tested on Linux with Wine set as Windows 7.

Thanks for the heads up. I remember wanting to take a peek at this a while back. No such thing as a better time or better price at this point I suppose.

About Love, Hate and the other ones has got a "?" under whether it runs on windows or not, so I downloaded and installed it, closed steam, moved it and ran it, and it didn't work.
However, the error I got was that bin\bin\somethingsomething file was missing, so I copied those files from the subfolders to the main one, and ran them, and now the game runs fine.

Edit: Also, Alum, which had a "?" under windows but a tick under Linux, worked for me as well.
Double Edit: Verified that Electronic Super Joy: Groove City also works on Windows without any fancy finagling.

Same goes for Linux.
Mercenary Kings is already on the list. Reloaded Edition is pretty much just a fancy updated name due to a significant patch, not a new SKU or DLC item or anything.
Stories - The Path of Destinies (which is currently free on Steam) works fine without the Steam client on Windows. It's not in the Wiki yet.

Sweet. I just got that game. Glad to know it's client-free.
The first Rosenkreuzstilette game can play without the Steam client, but Freudenstachel will close out if you try to play it without Steam running.
Galactic Civilizations 2: Ultimate Edition (on this list) is free on Humble Bundle until May 19th.
