I've just discovered Square Enix are no longer selling some of their older titles (Such as the pre 2013 tomb raiders) DRM free.

To make matters worse, they've removed the ability to re-download installers, for customers that have already bought these games.

I'm not 100% sure I have my original DRM installers.
Edit: Found the installers. Replicating them now.

Have sent SE an email. Will update when they reply.

I presume you mean directly from their website / store?

That doesn't really bode well for getting any newer games from them DRM free... :(
Well, it might simply be like it´s not very cost efficient for them to run a store on their website instead of distributing keys. If that´s the case, we could even end up with Square putting the games in question up on GOG and give website store customers GOG-keys... :D

Yep. Square Enix's own online store used to sell DRM free games, though we're not labeled as so. You had to go to the items page to find out.

And they're gone ;-( and replaced with Steam Codes.

That would be an ideal outcome. Lets see what their customer services say when they reply.

Thankfully I've bought almost all of SE's catalogue here.

^ Hahaha, the optimism of some people.

I bought all the TR game available here, even though I already own them on Disc and Steam.

Same for those bought on the Square Store, already have them on disc too. But I want to support DRM free and have the games in a format I want.

That´s why I put the smile at the end---of course it´s nothing very likely. Even if Square would rerelease them here it would be very unlikely that they´d hand out keys to those who previously owned the titles... (like EA, Ubi and co. Square generally doesn´t seem to care about reputation)

Too true, when your talking about millions of players worldwide, a mere few thousand unhappy customers can safely be ignored, probably why none of them really bother with releasing here.

That could be a problem, ie. they haven't promised anything about them being/remaining DRM-free. That's why I prefer my games in GOG which has such a promise. Even Humble Bundle has been slipping from it, in one or some of their so-called DRM-free Android bundles some games had to be downloaded and installed with a client, no DRM-free .apk.

However, which games are they? Maybe they are DRM-free also on Steam?

TR Anniversary, Legend and Underworld. Which I have on Disk, also got bundled on Steam. As for them being DRM free on Steam, don't know. I've not launched the Steam client in years, I use SSE to play my old Steam games.

As for not promising to remain DRM free, there was no agreement that the service was temporary in nature. Just basic good business to inform users when you're about to take away their service though.
Maybe it's not an pro-DRM move, more a "people ask for steam-keys, so they get them". Who was really interested in DRM-free knows where to look, all others are unfortunately focused on Steam as main service. I don't think this will affect gog in any way, which means Square-Enix will remove any games from gog.

I don't want to ever see you stop dreaming, Radon!
Good find, post updates when you get the reply.
So if I were to open my Square Enix account, I wouldn't find my Hitman 2 installer?
Granted I still have an ENTIRE BOX holding not only Hitman 2, but also Hitman, 1, 3 and Blood Money...this is still worrying...
