zeogold: 1. I don't cheat and don't play games where I could even cheat at.
2. I don't participate in enough discussion [..]
3. Gabe has supposedly stated that if Steam DOES go out of business, they'd remove the DRM [..]
4. Same could happen with GOG.
5. Same could happen with GOG.
I doubt that Ancient-Red-Dragon was only referring to your case.. he was probably speaking in general.
So, about your answers, usually:
1- unjust bans can happen (e.g: that problem with Dark Souls MP items).
2- various Steam players use the forums, so there is always a risk (bad mods still exist).
3- SURE, Valve is so user-friendly that they'd spend their remaining resources to fix a million of games for no gain.. this is too naive for you, Zeo. Ok, not that I believe that Steam will "ever" disappear, at this point..
4,5- if you couldn't regain access to your Steam account, you'd lose everything. For GOG, if you made backups as you should have, you will still have everything.

1. Possible, but rare and so insanely unlikely to happen to me in particular given what I play that, again, the risk is worth the reward, at least for me.
2. I don't use the forums and have no intention of ever doing so.
3. I doubt it too, but then there's the point that they're not likely to go down and, as previously mentioned, they'd likely get bought out before they do.
4-5. I already stated that I don't make backups like that and can't be bothered. It's bad and it's my own fault, but the fact that I'm a lazy sod isn't likely to change anytime soon, so the advantage of that is pretty much nullified.

Weclock: Games are more and more a social enigma than just about gameplay. It's the same reasons that Fallout 4 and Dead Rising 4 changed so significantly from their previous incarnations.
avatar
CARRiON-XCII: Fallout 4 is incredibly mixed and Dead Rising 4 was a complete failure.
I wasn't discussing their overall outcomes, I was discussing the reasons for their changes from the source material.

BUT TO BE ABSOLUTELY HONEST, I THINK BOTH GAMES ARE UTTER GARBAGE FIRES

I said that Red-Dragon was speaking in general.. you basically wrote again the same post.
My replies were the reasons why in general Gog is better than Steam, even according to your answers..

Executer: Steam, GoG with Galaxy are perfectly catering to the needs of fast food gamers.
They have no value for the collector and ones interested in preservation. :(
It may be better to get involved with fan communities and forums, as fans have a greater passion for preservation of games than a business probably will. For instance, VOGONS (Very Old Games On New Systems ... I think)

There's actually a very simple way to back up majority of Steam games, even those that use the steamworks ceg, so you'd be able to play them even long after Steam magically dies and you lose access to them. I'm just a big moron who knows nothing and I can do it.

Hey I made a funny lolb8 today. Was having a 'discussion' about some shit game and to end the conversation I quoted 'an line from one of the most amazing people on the planet' saying 'people don't think the universe be like it is, but it do'... and this person thought I was serious about it, calling me a dumbass and what not. Funny stuff m8.

What way is there to backup Steam? I only know of this method: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/steam_games_you_can_play_without_the_steam_client that consists of backing up the game folders of games that don't need Steam to run.

For other games, there's the backup option inside Steam, but those need Steam running to play, so how can you back them up for playing after Steam dies?

Well I'm sure there'll be misconceptions on this but you can use Smart Steam Emu. I use it to play the few I bought recently just to see if it consistently works. It doesn't modify any of the games' files, so it's easy to just plop from one to the other while changing one simple word in the ini file.

Hmm, doesn't seem legal to me. I'd prefer playing DRM-free GOG games if the Internet, Steam or GOG goes down.
Since because of New GOG's aforementioned lack of interest in keeping their stuff functional I can no longer be bothered to try and find out whether the chat and/or its notifications work properly at the moment or not, consider this message as a notification to Zeogold that I just sent him a message via chat and that he is hereby notified of that notification for said message.

Also, it will allow me to follow this rather interesting thread to which I don't really have anything new to contribute at this time. So yeah.
