Hey friends!

So I just finished playing F.E.A.R. today (was ok, I'm not a huge horror fan, but getting through a game these days is a big thing for me, so it must've had something :D), at the tail end of a "MUST TACKLE BACKLOG!" phase. I had been going after smaller games I own that I could finish. Recent weeks I completed Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Transistor, Bedlam, The Darkness II and just now F.E.A.R.
I've had enough of that now, and figure it is time to tackle something undoubtedly and unabashedly enjoyable, and perhaps larger in scope, but not too large- I've got till the end of this month before I have to head back to university, so unless it can run on a linux laptop (my mobile battlestation), it'll have to be completed before then (so it weeds out truly epic stuff like BG1 and 2, Deus Ex, etc.).

HOWEVER, I, I would also prefer it to be engaging and fun on a mechanical level as well. I guess I'm just going through a bit in my life where complicated mechanics or cumbersome mechanics can't be ignored even if the rest of the game is good. What does that mean? Well, for example, something on the level of Baldur's Gate was a bit overwhelming for me, but Shadowrun Returns I completed easily enough.

So something mechanically fun (so probably not adventure games or VNs or "Walking Simulators", even though there are loads of those I enjoy), can be a larger game, and since I've been dealing with so many guns recently, maybe something fantasy-like?

Now I don't plan to be buying any games, so this will be from my own collection. Sorry for the backloggery link, seemed the simplest solution, considering my games are stretched across several distribution platforms.

Thanks in advance, and sorry I'm getting you to do my thinking for me :D!
Realms of the Haunting
System Shock 2
Thief
I'll tell you what NOT to play - Nosgoth.

Purge it from your computer. Delete it, forget it, doesn't exist, thank you very much.
vampire bloodlines
If you like old-school FPS, like Blood, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, etc., you should totally play Shadow Warrior Classic Redux.
Anachronox

dark souls prepare to die edition
it is hard and like the title say prepare to die edition :D but when you finish it you will have a nice feeling because games like that is something like an achievement and the game are not for everyone and my opinion is that the first game is far better than the second one the second is just kinda easy so if you want a chalange dark souls prepare to die edition is just an awesome
game :)
Tales of Maj'Eyal. See you in a couple of months.

snowkatt: vampire bloodlines

InfraSuperman: Anachronox
Aren't those a little long for what he's looking for? That's why I didn't suggest them, a bit TOO epic, I thought. If not, I might have more/different suggestions (those among them)

JMich: Tales of Maj'Eyal. See you in a couple of months.
I was also thinking that and thought it was a bit too much to digest in one month's time. It's one of those "never finished" games almost.

I take it you also played Dragonfall DC? (Because if not, what are you waiting for?!? ;) )

Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader
Little Big Adventure
Sacred 2 Gold
System Shock 2

Those are some of my recommendations
Epic and fun to play? Darksiders.
I recommend Little Big Adventure because owning it and not playing it is almost a crime.

-undoubtedly and unabashedly enjoyable in every sense of the word
-it's not too big, nor too little. It's just a little big.
-no guns: your main weapon is a magic ball that works a bit like a boomerang
-it's an action adventure and it has platforming so unlike point & clicks it should engage you on a mechanical level
-fantasy elements (e.g. has a dragon, and you can ride it - this isn't a spoiler as the dragon is on the game cover)
-only drawback is a strangely unintuitive saving system but once you figure out how that works it's not too aggravating
How strange...my thread seems to have shown up twice. I guess that "waiting..." with a circle meant that it was already posted. Here is the thread with one extra line, though:

Thank you for the suggestions, though... (and anti-suggestions :D). I am collating them, although I've already played Darksiders, and I don't own Dark Souls.

Not sure how to unsplit the conversation. Can two threads be combined?
Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2.

Oh and Crysis 1 if you have the PC for it.
