Hey friends!

So I just finished playing F.E.A.R. today (was ok, I'm not a huge horror fan, but getting through a game these days is a big thing for me, so it must've had something :D), at the tail end of a "MUST TACKLE BACKLOG!" phase. I had been going after smaller games I own that I could finish. Recent weeks I completed Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Transistor, Bedlam, The Darkness II and just now F.E.A.R.
I've had enough of that now, and figure it is time to tackle something undoubtedly and unabashedly enjoyable, and perhaps larger in scope, but not too large- I've got till the end of this month before I have to head back to university, so unless it can run on a linux laptop (my mobile battlestation), it'll have to be completed before then (so it weeds out truly epic stuff like BG1 and 2, Deus Ex, etc.). I'm currently waffling in Kingdom's of Amalur, but although I enjoyed it when I played it originally, I remember getting burned out and finally tired of the unendingness by the time I reached the desert area),

HOWEVER, I, I would also prefer it to be engaging and fun on a mechanical level as well. I guess I'm just going through a bit in my life where complicated mechanics or cumbersome mechanics can't be ignored even if the rest of the game is good. What does that mean? Well, for example, something on the level of Baldur's Gate was a bit overwhelming for me, but Shadowrun Returns I completed easily enough.

So something mechanically fun (so probably not adventure games or VNs or "Walking Simulators", even though there are loads of those I enjoy), can be a larger game, and since I've been dealing with so many guns recently, maybe something fantasy-like, and most importantly, unequivocally, without any qualifications, GOOD (so not titles that have obvious faults, but I should overcome them because something, etc,).

Now I don't plan to be buying any games, so this will be from my own collection. Sorry for the backloggery link, seemed the simplest solution, considering my games are stretched across several distribution platforms.

Thanks in advance, and sorry I'm getting you to do my thinking for me, and making you read through all that when essentially it was just "Recommend me a great game from my list :D!

Crysis 2
A small (10-12 hours) but good game.
You know what I'm gonna say, right ?
For fantasy game I would suggest Divinity series or Titan Quest.
Titan Quest is like Diablo with Greek Mythology.
It happens in Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt and Asia.
You may find some similarity with various movies (like Clash Of Titans).
Thief.
vampire bloodlines with the latest fan patch

and dungeon siege 1
nevermind my bad.

From your list, for me, the choice is obvious: Fallout Tactics.
Play it in turn-based mode (it also has a real-time mode).
Note that it is not similar to Fallout, except in character creation and battle mechanics. Much better than Fallout, IMHO.
Depending on your game style should take 20-40 hours.
I'd suggest Shadowrun Dragonfall since you enjoyed Shadowrun returns. Personally I think interface is an improvement over the previous installment. Can't really talk about story because I haven't completed returns yet, but it seemed good to me. I'm actually revisiting it now to get ready for Shadowrun Hong Kong.

I'll second this.

(I assume you played Fallout already. If not you might want to do it first).

I am a collector, I actually have excel grids per system. I really don't want to add up how many I have in case I realize I have a problem :o)

Anyways, need something to keep the walls up.
