What can I do if my game crashes to desktop?

We've gotten reports of a game-breaking bug in Warhammer 40:00 Chaos Gate. While we work on implementing a solution to the issue, here's what you can do get back on track in the meantime:

If your game crashes when you select to start a mission, please make sure that it is installed to a simple location. The installation path can only have 2 subfolders and 35 characters total. For example, the default installation directory will work:

C:/GOG Games/WH40K Chaos Gate

Stay tuned for more updates, and don't hesitate to get in touch with our support team if your issues persist.
If its about windows 10, then it's hard for me to believe that because I have a tons of GOG games played in Windows 10 from the really old game to newer games never a single prob until this one. Anyway thanx.

tfishell: GOG does not officially support the game under Windows 10. I assume there is a Win10 issue out of their control.

Anyway, check the game forum - https://www.gog.com/forum/warhammer_40000_chaos_gate#1457701606 - or contact Support for potential help.

While it's great that you haven't had many troubles, GOG doesn't really offer support for a game on a particular OS version unless they've tested it and are reasonably confident that it will perform well on a decent variety of different systems and configurations running that OS -- there are many, many things which can make a given game not work well with some setups even while it might work nearly flawlessly with others.

This is still a problem.
First move the game files go C:\GOG Games then fallow the instructions in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbgp5kHheu8&feature=youtu.be

That should get it running correctly.
Cant get it to go to missions. So since that crashes every begin mission attmept, either help me or give me a refund please.

You want Support, its on the toolbar at the top of the page. Put in a ticket, tell them your machine, operating system, and a full diagnostic of the problem - i.e. what happens, what doesn't work. They should be able to help you further.

I tried that already. They didnt offer any help. I told them I am not an expert at moving files around. They just referred me to their totally unhelpful help comment.

Goto your account, click on games. This will open your library. Select the game in question. On the left of the page you will see Warhammer 40000: Chaos Gate. Click on this and let it download. Goto your Downloads folder (open an explorer window and select downloads from the left window). You will see the file you just downloaded. Double click on it. This will open the GOG installer. When you see the grey GOG window click on Options to the lower left. In the Install game to: box type in:
c:\MyGames\ChaosGate

Check the Yes check box to the lower of the window, then click install. This will now install your game to the folder I supplied above. It should then work. The reason to avoid installing into Windows controlled folder areas is that there is something called UAC - which means Windows manages privileges on them, so your games cant save files. Installing outside of Windows folders avoids this - I always create a few folders in the root area and install everything, games, apps etc. there rather than in Program Files.

Did that and still also crashes when entering a mission On That. *
None of the solutions people suggest seem to help and they are still complicated or dont help at all. Either give me a product that works properly, help me in a simplified and easy way to understand so I dont mess up any more files, or give me a refund instead. I want either Chaos Gate to work properly or a refund. I apologize but I'm angry since I did all the suggestions and none of them helped.

No matter what I do that doesnt help. I want a refund.

Then you're going to have to deal with support. It's just your fellow gamers here on the forums.

I apologize in case I was rude. I sent a comment to support. All they did was refer me to the same article.

I own BOTH the game on disc, and the GoG version.

I can confirm that the game from disc works fine in windows 10. Better, in fact, than it did on Windows 7 which woudl crash on first mission.

In contrast, the GoG version crashes on launching the first mission.

Possibilities occurring to me:

1 - Many machines these days have no CD drive to check. Is this an issue?
2 - Is the game somehow trying to use Windows 7 features?
Downloaded this game not that long ago. discovering the same issue of it crashing on the first mission. Wondering if there is any chance of an update to fix it or suggestion of where i should look to purchase an up-to-date CD verison, so i can play this old classic again?
I'm running windows 8 and it crashs when ever i enter combat
