SirPrimalform: I have this version too, and to be honest I'm not sure what they could have done about it. I don't think it's possible to put redbook audio on a DVD.

idbeholdME: Well, maybe they could state somewhere in bold letters "In-game music does NOT work" for starters. I expect a Collector's Edition to be a wholesome package. If the music from DVD doesn't work, they should have included an audio CD with it or just don't sell it. It was like I bought a car but after delivery found out that one of the wheels isn't included. Music in AoE2 is a pretty important aspect.
You guys know the easy fix for that?

1. Copy the 20x "01-AudioTrack 01.wav", etc, tracks from the DVD's \Music sub-folder into INSTALLDIR\Sound (the sound sub-folder of your installation directory). You can also compress them into .mp3 for smaller size.

2. Run UserPatch and at the top right there should be a "Music" option. Click on it, then add the 20 tracks you just copied over (filename should be 01-AudioTrack 01 ending in .wav or .mp3), then click OK. UserPatch should then create a music.m3u in same \sound sub-folder with a format of SOUND\01-AudioTrack 01.mp3, SOUND\02-AudioTrack 02.mp3, (one per line), etc. You could probably manually create this file with same effect.

Enjoy in-game music that was on the DVD all along (just in WAV rather than "Redbook" CD-Audio). All that was needed was to copy them over and create a standard .m3u playlist specifically called "music.m3u" into the \Sound subfolder. In fact you can replace those files with your own in-game music too. :-)

I thought the Userpatch didn't support AoK, only The Conquerors. Am I wrong?

I haven't tested it, but the changelog states "Per-civilization m3u music playlists for both the core game and expansions". You might need to install the expansion but then just play the base content. I thought everyone did that anyway due to all the other stuff it fixes up (adds widescreen, fixes the "rainbow color bug" for DirectDraw under W7-10, more random map seeds, AI bugs, increased pop size, etc)?

That patch actually looks good. So many fixes in general AND it also solves the music issue? Will definitely try it. The best thing about it is that it doesn't touch the game balance in any way.

The only thing I'm worried about is how do the AI updates affect the campaigns? I can see significant AI improvements and changes that might unintentionally ruin some campaign scenarios. Have you tested the UserPatch with campaigns?

I haven't personally, no (I mostly play random maps). There's a large modding community over at Heaven Games plus UserPatch has been in development for several years though wth a lot of feedback from there. I'm sure they would pick up on anything majorly game breaking.

For those interested, the AoE1 equivalent is uPatch which does more or less the same thing.

TARFU: How about the, uh, 6000 SUX?

Hey, no problem. Let the mayor go and we'll even throw in a Blaupunkt.

Braggadar: The car with really shitty gas mileage. Can you throw in a Magnavolt package?
And I wanna recount. I this time I wanna win!

I dare say you've hung around here for long enough to know, that such threads make no sense.

tinyE: Et tu, Elmo?

BreOl72: My thoughts, exactly.
So I should just accept what is now reality with GOG and choose whether to continue or not?

Well I'll 100% get over it if they sell Rainbow Six 3 here already.

Right now I am only at 10% of having a problem here of not getting classic games.

Fair question Elmofongo! I have always wondered the same.

Steam offer many Microprose games and on GOG we see the latest Anime/Pixel creation... I know licences but... If only a pragmatic solution would arise, customers will happily pay their money for classic's. At the moment no one benefits, might as well resort to original copies or abandonware sites.

CMOT70: Just for peoples info, the Dungeon Siege games have nothing to do with Microsoft anymore. They were bought, lock, stock, the whole fuck'n lot by Square Enix. Square Enix are the publisher of all the Dungeon Siege games on Steam.
avatar
zlaywal: Just checked the Steam page, and currently Dungeon Siege Collection is 85% off, with my regional pricing about $1.33. Gonna buy it tomorrow I guess.
Thanks for mentioning that. I just checked and, not only it's still discounted, according to this (that I found out because of this thread ) it doesn't even require the stupid client to run.

I guess I'm buying it too.

Just an update.

The patch seemed to work. The music is working. The volume controls are a little weird but it works. And the option to make own soundtracks is definitely welcome too.

But I found no way to get it working for the base game too (the patch doesn't seem to support it and the music does not work) which is a shame. And people might actually want to play the original campaigns without the stuff the Conquerors added like Petards or unique techs. You know, the authentic vanilla experience.
