Breja: At worst, crude and cringeworthy.
Of course it is crude and cringe worthy, it is suppose to be, Its fucking Deadpool! I find it odd that one of the more obscure super "heroes" has suddenly became one of the most over hyped and popular. Really strange lol.

It's Guardians of the Galaxy all over again. Which is probably why I'm not overly hyped about the movie myself.

Still Deadpool isn't really all that obscure. he's really grown in popularity in recent years. Now, the fact that Rip Hunter has his own TV show right now- that's really strange.

Recent years is the key words there. Its a different style to Guardians, grown up dirty humour.
Deadpool, takin out box office records even, can hardly believe what I'm writing without rechecking the article;

Largest February Opening Weekend ever: $85.1 million; beating Fifty Shades of Grey
Largest 4-Day President’s Day Weekend ever: $93 million; beating Fifty Shades of Grey
Largest R-Rated Opening Weekend ever: $91.7 million; beating The Matrix Reloaded
Largest R-Rated Comic Adaptation Opening ever: $70.8 million; beating 300
Largest Winter Opening Weekend ever: $89.2 million; beating American Sniper
Largest Opening for 20th Century Fox ever: $108.4 million; beating Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

One of the biggest openings for any superhero movie ever. o_o

I think it may be the inherited fanbases of the Marvel, DC and X-Men wanted another superhero movie to watch, and Deadpool was johnny on the spot. It's competition is Zoolander 2, and I mean, c'mon.

Talk about me appearently doing Wrong Think.

I say some negative things about Deadpool and people disagree with me.

Even though I thought the movie was OK. Its what I expected from a Deadpool movie.
My oldest daughter's a huge fan of Deadpool and we had a blast with the movie. All the one-liners, bad puns, over the top violence, goofy sex jokes... it all worked for us. And yeah, I can't imagine anyone but Reynolds playing the character. Thought he was the spot-on perfect choice. Hell, I enjoyed it enough that I went a second time with my youger daughter.

What the hell did you expect? If you say good things, people will disagree with you as well. That happens whenever anyone expresses an opinion. Especially with entertainment, you'll never have everyone agree on whether it's good, bad, or so-so.

Which I think is the key point here. Studios are generally so afraid to go above a PG-13 rating for fear that it will affect their ticket sales. That is why I think a lot of adult fans of superhero movies have been really longing for an R-rated superhero movie. Deadpool to the rescue.

OneFiercePuppy: When I went on Saturday, there were literally dozens of children who looked under 10 years old in the theater. At least ten or twelve families left in the first 20 minutes, which was a shame, because those little kids missed some excellent gore and the occasional bare breast, which probably would have done them some good.
avatar
tinyE: WTF is the point of the rating system of the parents to look at it? :P What pisses me off is I bet a lot of those folks went home and cursed out the movie makers and the theaters for showing it, never mentioning that there is a great big fucking "R" on every single poster and advert.
This.

People, read the rating and don't take your elementary kids to R movies.

Not every cartoon is for kids! Can we please not repeat the mistakes we made with anime imports?

Yeah, the studios are getting more obvious about their collusion to coordinate schedules for big movies.

I hope we get some more interesting superhero movies soon. So far every Marvel movie I've seen besides Winter Soldier has been an action flick about bad boy white dude getting past trauma/hang-up/personality problem by punching people and cracking one-liners. It's a decent enough plot structure, but I'm pretty burned out on it. Can Marvel studio heads literally not think of anything besides this one plot and character stereotype?

I'd love something different. Anything different. Even if it's just to have a female bad girl being the one getting past trauma by punching people, that would at least be a little bit different. I mean, it would be great if the studio execs would OK actual different plots but at least swapping out the main character stereotype would be a step forward.

Stay away from the upcoming Doctor Strange then, his origin story is basically exactly what you described, except he casts spells instead of punching people.

Marvel'sJessica Jones TV show is that "bad girl" thing I guess, but I found it terribly boring. Maybe it get's better after the first episode, but I honestly don't care.

I guess the best chance for that "something different" are DC movies this year, Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. Now, whether they actually will be any good and fresh remains to be seen, but at least there's hope.

There's a Dr Strange movie? I guess if I heard about it I just didn't pay attention - he's basically the same archetype as Tony Stark but with magic spells instead of magic smithing (I can't tall what Stark does 'engineering' or 'programming') and I've never been very interested.

Yeah, Jessica Jones was clearly not my cup of tea but at least Netflix is trying something slightly different. Some people like it, some people don't. I'm just happy for any change in the overgrown, stagnant pond mainstream US superhero franchises have become.

I'm cautiously optimistic that Civil War will be slightly different, because it's about bigger issues than one dude's hangups and personal enemies. We'll see.

I think the new Ghostbusters looks possibly interesting too. The bit of pre-release stuff I've seen looks promising.

I haven't seen it, but the DC's Legends of Tomorrow also looks at least a little interesting, as it mixes superhero with time travel, somewhat Doctor Who style. So it might be a fresh approach.

Really? Everything I heard, read and seen about this movie makes it look like this years Fantastic Four to me. And the teaser they released looks about as generic as possible. It could literally be a teaser for any blockbuster movie- Independance Day, Transformers, Avengers...

Doubtful. From what I've heard they were too scared to do a Wonder Woman movie because the lead would have to be a woman.I doubt the two movies you mention will break any molds. Although I'll probably go see them anyway...

You do realise they are shooting the Wonder Woman movie right now?
