I know one of my routers i had had a log option which let me see the last 200 requests from the network... You might look into that, or a packet sniffer for your network to see what packets are being sent as well as their content...



As a note, it's possible your computer is part of a bot-net. I watched not too long ago how people's computers can be incorporated into a bot-net using javascript, and using a proxy server which injects new javascript code during download when it recognizes files. So...

First, disconnect from the internet. (Physically or ipconfig /release or something)

Second disable Javascript and flash from your browsers, There's an exploit using Flash that involves loading a font which uses the font manager to get root privileges and then can do anything. Apparently any web page can also do this if your browser auto-downloads any listed fonts, so manually made fonts to do specific attacks can do stuff.

Third, clear the cache on all your browsers. Possibly all offline data/files too. Afterwards restart them.

Fourth consider a packet sniffer and go through what ip addresses are being accessed. it involves commandline access or writing to a file, and this file can get very very very big depending on who much traffic you have.

The most connected device you have in your home, presumably your PC, is likely not able to tell the power company anything about you - even the simple status of it being turned on or off - via the smart meter. The rare exception might be for those people using power line networking. To do so requires hardware beyond that which already appears in the overwhelming majority of electrical / electronic products on the market today. Or it requires the willing installation of a network connection between your devices and the meter. In other words, unless your devices are able - and set-up - to provide MAC address or other identifying info to the meter, there is nothing to worry about from the simple installation of a smart meter.

For certain, the meter isn't telling the power company that you're brushing your teeth. If they want that info about someone, the power company simply needs to check facebook status updates. ; )

If i got a bill like that i'd give the middle finger and go full time bush-crafting. I have enough money to last me for years on just survival supplies, food and other resources i can get from the wild.

OK, as we are talking about the usual home network, not using subnets, this means that all devices can see each other. If you have your TV connected to it, the meter could see it, same for the fridge and whatever. Any device connected to the network can be seen.

And as far as I understood, that is what is happening. Having the power meter connected to the LAN. Please correct me, if I misunderstood it. If it is not connected, it would not apply.

And no power line network is a different kind of Pandora-Box. And too use it, is a rather bad idea! You can receive this signal much further away as you would believe! Just think of DSL, up to 8 km away....That is why I only suggest cable connections.
