GameRager: I don't see how women in games being sexy relates to one being picked on irl/online
It's that women often seem to be portrayed as having no value other than being sexy and tend to get "accused" of being ugly and fat if they don't agree with men in real life. Not trying to prove anything, just saying how society has made me feel.

avatar
GameRager: Also why point out the women who wait around waiting to be saved and NOT all the women in gaming who kick butt and save the day like Lara Croft/Bayonetta/etc?
I tried to use the words "often" and "usually" to show that I know there are examples of more interesting female characters. How come you only mentioned the women who do kick butt and none of the ones who don't? How many male characters are there who are only there for women to ogle?

avatar
GameRager: I'm not trying to be mean but you seem to be discounting all the stuff done to objectify men as not as bad as what is done to women just to prop up your point to yourself.
You're not coming across as mean and I generally agree with a lot of what you've said but I'm not saying objectifying men is less bad, just that's it's less frequent and a more recent phenomenon.

1. Women should(imo) embrace any sexiness they have as one of their good qualities/assets(though not their only one of course) and not shirk away from it/from it being portrayed as an asset in media. Just my two cents.

I agree no one should accuse others of being ugly/fat if they disagree with someone, though.

(Also again I get where you're coming from. I have suffered many such 'slings and arrows' from people online, and it sucks, but I try my best to ignore such)

2. They are the ones who come to mind to me from what I am familiar with/have played/etc. The woman(forget her name) from the Blackwell series is also good and doesn't kick butt physically, as another example.

As for male eye candy: The Gears of War men(they are mostly there for women to ogle and also gay men, and for straight men to want to be more like/self insert as).

Irl eye candy: Chippendales/etc dancers.

3. I was just trying to show that i'm not trying to be mean as some others have taken offense with the way I come across and I want to mitigate that and clarify/apologize as much as possible/needed.

Imo it's(male objectification) at about the same frequency(women doing it slightly less)......just that it's less brought up by the PC society we live in as women are considered more marginalized than men(even in first world countries), Also it's likely been around for years(marital aids are basically objectifying men and have been around since the dawn of time, as one example).

I see the problem as relating to materialism. Under materialism, everything becomes a commodity. So if we really want to get away from objectification of women, children, and men, I think we will have to transcend materialism.

Unless we all become Gandhi, uncaring robots, or all dead that'll not likely happen. :\

Let's not talk about Gandhi. lol

You sound like an uncaring robot. sometimes. ;p

Also lol at the rest.

HappyPunkPotato: How many male characters are there who are only there for women to ogle?
How many women are interested in good looking male characters, who don't kick ass, but just sitting and waiting waiting to be rescued?
I think we have a much bigger problems these day and age then bickering about genders.
Food for your thought: One Trident class submarine can cause a nuclear winter that none of us can survive. Who's paying for it? Yes our tax dollars instead of going for healthcare and education.

I'm sure the bloke who grabbed my wrists and asked some other bloke to undo my dress and the bloke who grabbed the back of my neck and tried to force me to give him a blow job would agree with you too. Not saying that you (or the vast majority of men) are like that or that men don't also get harassed. But if it's a choice between that or not looking sexy I'll go with not.

That's very much appreciated since it's often hard to tell over the internet!

Depends on what you mean by being "interested in".

1. Well that came out of left field. :\

Not to sound callous/mean....but please don't use appeals to emotion(even if bad personal stories) to try and win a debate. It gives out TMI to people who don't need to/shouldn't know it online(and we don't want the wrong people knowing some things about us, right?) and also makes one seem desperate when trying to convince someone of their POV if they have to resort to such info to win a debate.

Also what does the last bit of part 1 mean? That you think women being sexy leads to assault?

(If you don't want to talk further about this assault topic or answer this question I can get why and understand)

As for what I meant:

I was actually saying women should embrace their "sexiness" through their game characters more than IRL and be happy about their sexiness(even if they hide it IRL) IRL in general as an asset/good thing and not a bad one.

===============================

It is hard to tell and that's why I clarify/apologize/etc all the time....to be as clear as possible and avoid any problems sprouting up/people getting upset too much.

===============================

That person probably meant physically interested in(good looking/etc).

I mean exactly what YOU mean. You asked - how many male characters are there who are only there for women to ogle?

Now I'm asking you - how many women are interested in such characters.
I am disappointed that it's a figure of a character when it could be something cool...
Like Cyberpunk Ciri! That's a true Collector's Items for CDPR fans, ya know? That's what Collector's Editions should be for!

Anyway, I can see where you're coming from, but again I think the more disappointing part is not that it's the male character but that it's a character at all.

Agreed. What's the point of having a military that can kill everything in the world 100 times? o.O

That, and the amazing profitability of warmongering.
