Well, to be honest, i was never the Shoot-em-up guy in gaming. Legendary titles, like doom, crossed my path, yet i never got around to beating them, even their demos only... Things started to get interesting for me with HORROR shooters, like the Suffering, which got me so stuck with them i played them until i could unlock everything. Then i got hooked up with FEAR. And other ones, less shiny for my eyes, yet highly enjoyable.

I thought of discussing "Shooters", in order to suggest interesting titles, especially highly acclaimed and of high quality. No, not only for me, but for anyone interested in them, anyway! Not necessarily horror, but if they are too, all the better.

I myself enjoyed VERY much...
1) The Suffering series
2) FEAR series (only 1 i liked a lot)
3) Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Eath
4) Condemned: Criminal Origins
5) Shadow Warrior series
6) Cybermage: Darklight Awakening
7) Doom series
Can't do shooters with out the Half life games of course. Unique for their time and still fun as hell!

True. Even though in my case, Half-Life was what shooed me faraway from ALL shooters for a long time before i knew them well, this one is said to be one, if not THE, best representatives of this genre.
Tower of Guns
No One Lives Forever 1+2, of course.

SiN, rough, underestimated gem.

I'll always fall back on half life. So well made.
"Hard Reset", it´s really good, not much story though just like "Doom".

I'll second this. Very cool art style too.
Undying
Painkiller Black Edition
Duke Nukem 3D
- Serious Sam series
- Hard Reset
- Blood

Shooter and RPG hybrid
- Borderlands series
Dark Forces II is a pretty solid shooter, with some mild RPG elements and strong story.
Serious Sam. Love the frantic action.
Far Cry: Blood Dragon. I love the cheesy, over-the-top 1980's action movie style of the game and the fact it doens't take itself very seriously.
PainKiller
Return to Castle Wolfenstein, any wolfenstein game really.
Here is some of my favorites or simply highly recommended ones :

Clive Barker's Undying : the atmosphere, the story (I especially recommend this one)
Duke Nukem 3D : great classic, the humor, good gameplay (and especially recommend this one too)
Unreal Tournament & Unreal Tournament 2004 : great gameplays but no story

Games not on GOG :
Half-Life 1 : great classic
Return to Castle Wolfenstein : so good atmosphere

Games I still have to play or haven't played enough but that are reputed very good/interesting :
Unreal 1
Blood One Unit Whole Blood (warning : it seems to be a hard game)
Ghost Recon : strategy, realistic...
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. serie
System Shock 2
Deus Ex (of course)
Outlaws
No One Lives Forever 1+2
Descent 1& 2

I should take a closer look at Call of Cthulhu : Dark Corners of the Earth : heard a little about it, it looks interesting :)
