Petrell: It's not really GOG's fault is it? You were just extremely unlucky. If games are on abandonware sites, I doubt you lost more than few dollars/euros (as most classics are either 5.99$/9.99$ or euro equivalent). Can happen anywhere really. In late 90's I bought Voodoo 2 video card for 1500 finnish marks (~250€) only for price to drop to half next week. It wasn't even sale but permanent price reduction.

If you really want to avoid similar situation, buy games only during sales. GOG has regular sales over weekend as well as staff pick sales at begining of the week. Then there's several big sales where large portion of games on catalog goes to sale like Christmas and Summer sale among others. There is usually big sale in autumn celebrating GOG's birthday so big sale may be coming up in near future.
