Hi All,

Ive only recently got into PC gaming and was wondering if you could help me out finding some "must play" single player games that i can run on my several year old laptop which has a GTX 765. i know there any probably hundreds but could you let me know the ones that come to mind.

Cheers
Muff
What genre?
I'd be interested in anything really if its engaging but i do like 4X, Real time strategy, turn based strategy games.

I recently played master of orion 2 and X-com and really enjoyed those
Have you ever played SMAC/X? There are rumors that there are no better to be had.

For turn based get Heroes of Might & Magic 2.

For RTS management Theme Hospital, Tropico 2.
Well, hey. At least that lappie's got a moderately decent dGPU. It definitely trashes any current iGPU in existence. So, not that crappy. ;) There are so many great older games to be had that I kind of envy you for having a chance to experience them for the first time.

As for strategy game recommenations:
Master of Orion 2 - Still the best space 4X TBS out there IMO, even if diplomacy was always a bit simplistic
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 - Using the HOMM 3 HD community patch/project it's the best of the franchise.
Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds - Best Age of Empires game. So there!
Stronghold HD & Crusader HD - Pretty much the only games that made the whole castle-building/combat fun
XCOM: Enemy Unkown - Great reboot of ye olde XCOM franchise. Should run quite decently on your lappie if your CPU meets the specs.

And these are just off the top of my head... ;)

HoMM3 looks pretty good at this stage im leaning towards this

if there are any games outside of the strategy genre im happy to look into these also.
Hi!
to those great titles that have already posted I'll just add some few old-school very addictive RTS/turn based games games I love:

- Jagged Alliance 2 (+ Unifinished Business)
- Master of Magic
- Fallout 1+2+Tactics
- Syndicate

Outside strategy there are soooo many, that's why it was asked you what genre :D

For me must to play "outside strategy world" are:

- Leisure Suite Larry 7 Love for Sail
- Little Big Adventure
- Nox
- Screamer 2
- Shogo
- Blood 2 The chosen
- System Shock 2
...

Just in the 'classic' there are sooo many!
Have you looked into the Shadowrun series? It looks good from what I've read of the reviews.

Great game! But if you're interested in that sort of game also check out Disciples 2 which personally I enjoy a bit more than HoMM3. Better story, better overall atmosphere and much better art direction imo. Unfortunately, even though it can be pretty challenging (especially for a new player), it doesn't quite deliver the challenge that HoMM3 does (at least the HoMM3 expansions)

And for something outside of strategy? I'm a sucker for management games, and one here on gog that's not nearly famous enough is Startopia.

Or a puzzle game? World of Goo is quite famous I think, and with very good reason.
Another classic turn based strategy game I would recommend is Sid Meier's Colonization.

Outside of strategy genre, when this question is brought up I always recommend Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

Agreed. I've never even heard of it until it released on GOG.

Other management type games that are worth checking out:
Anno 1404 - Considered one of if not THE best of the Anno franchise.
Settlers: Rise of an Empire - A great reinvention of the original Settlers formula with a bit wider scope gameplay-wise.
RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 & 2 - They still hold up very well especially when used in conjunction with the OpenRCT 2 community project,
Tangledeep, maybe?
SMAC with/without the expansion is awesome.
I've always had my ass handed to me. Never beat the game =P

SidCol also great, but the motherland always mops the floor with me. Either in classic 1994 or in Civilization 4 expansion.

I like them both better than Civilization franchise, so yea you "must play" Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

Take the fight outside of the cities! During the Revolutionary War you get a terrain bonus when attacking, because by then the New World has become your homeland. ;)
