Aperantly the source code for SR2 was finally found and soon will be updated o run smoothly on PC.

So got will be delisting the defunct product they are selling...

The whole sentence is:

"The rebuilt version of Saints Row 2 will work through Steamworks instead of Gamespy."

GameSpy was for multiplayer, so that most probably means the multiplayer part will use Steamworks instead of Gamespy.

The game could still appear on GOG too, with or without multiplayer.

I would not hold my breath. In a interview they explicitly stated "Steam, just steam" when asked about other platforms. Maybe it was just to shoot down Epic rumors before they emerge but it sounded pretty adamant.
This one gives a tiny amount of hope though.

It was about damn time. They could add high resolution textures while they are at it.

A nice thing to announce after this would be a PC Port of the Original Saint's Row..... or maybe a remaster/remake.....
