Oh Perfect World. You haven't even brought Torchlight Mobile out from soft launch yet and you throw away Runic Games in a ditch like some cheap harlot. That's seriously messed up.

You got your damn cash-grab of a mobile MMO so why would you give two f**ks about the original creators.

Acriz: Didn't they plan to make a MMO or something like that? I remember something along the lines that Torchlght was a testdrive for their studio or something similar. They promised news about that project several times, but never really presented anything, then came TL II. Am I misremembering that?
Runic Games refused to work on a MMO so Perfect World outsourced it to a Chinese company (EFUN Company Limited) - got the game they wanted and threw the rest away.

Crappy news, did hope for a TL3.
I'm completely in shock after waking up to this. Hob hasn't been out for even two months yet, and Perfect World shuts the company down :(
"For those that love the Torchlight series, there will be some news coming. And for all our fans, our community and multiplayer services will keep running even after the studio's lights go off. "

For how long though?
Doubt they'd want to keep paying for servers etc unless they're about to release something new that'll require them, which seems unlikely now.

Hmm, on their twitter: "Well it wasn't our idea"

I'm betting the Torchlight is just a western release of that Torchlight Mobile game that everyone says is terrible.

There's a mobile version? Had no idea hehe.

Mr.Mumbles: Never go full indie. =P

tinyE: That movie was a major disappointment for me. The only part I really loved was Tom Cruise which is saying something because I AM NOT normally a fan of is.
Tom Cruise was the only part of Tropic Thunder that I really DIDN'T like. I thought his character was terrible even before I realized who it was under all that (terrible) makeup.

No, what's seriously messed up is that you apparently dump cheap harlots in ditches. Please, be a little more responsible in the future: use a dumpster like a responsible person. No one likes a litterbug.

Fuckin' god-fuckin'-damned publishers! It is ALWAYS the fuckin' publishers that consistently fucks over developers/customer Well, good, I hope they can still go the crowd-funded route as it looks like that would be the best thing for them now, especially since all three of their games are beloved and well received by gamers...

So, fuck the publishers they don't need them in the long run!

DivisionByZero.620: Unlikely that (the highly successful) Runic Games would just close up shop. They most likely threw in the towel because of an unpalatable demand from Perfect World (China's own version of EA or Ubi)

I completely expect to see an always-online Torchlight 3 with loot boxes and crap up next.

The main mistake Runic Games made: Failed MMO bid. Indie developers should generally stay away from "making MMOs" because of the large investment and ongoing required.

No idea how many of you have heard of an all too forgotten (and surprisingly good) open world game called Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. It could easily have competed with the Elder Scrolls or Witcher series. Instead, the developer used most of the revenue from Reckoning to make an MMO sequel. The MMO never made it to market, and the developer folded soon after. The IP rights have been tied up ever since, preventing a sequel or further improvement.
MMOs are the bane of this industry...Birthed too many shitty publishers and their nickel and dime tactics, I would love to take a fire-hose to their servers!

That's probably the plan. I suspect they'll start over, with a smaller team of Ex-Runic employees, and launch a crowd-funding campaign for their next game. They have skilled and creative game developers, customers/gamers respect them, and now they also have the extra underdog sympathy bonus -- I'm pretty sure people would be willing to support them, whatever their future plans are.

And HOW, I plan to throw my money at their next project, (Bought both their TL series via multiple sources) as Hob is a masterpiece! Plus I put them on the same pedestal as Larian and CDPR!...Self publishing is a lot better than relying on most of these degenerate shareholder whoring publishers...As your future with these greedy fucks are pretty much out of your hands!
Sad news...
Runic, I love you. Come back reincarnated in a self publishing form.
