IronArcturus: I've tried multiple computers on my connection and they all get the same slow connection to GOG. I've tried both the downloader and the website and they're both slow as well. I've asked a friend to check their connection to GOG, but they live in a different area.

I really want this slow downloading problem to be solved. I won't be able to use GOG anymore if the connection is going to be "7 KB/sec." It's just ridiculous and I really wish GOG could figure out what is wrong. :(
Similar to what someone else suggested - turn off firewall (or disable it temporarily), try another computer on your internet connection, make sure no other programs/services are running on the PC/network your connected to. Is anything else slow on your internet? Are you perhaps over quota and shaped for time being?. Last resort try another router (it can and does happen...). Like others have said, there is a distinct possibility its somewhere along chain of servers between you and GOG...Have full speed over here when downloading from GOG (depending on whatever this connection is connected at however...sometimes 13MB, more likely around 7MB :/ ).

Just want to chime in: I'm getting crazy slow speeds too. As in 1-2 kb/second. I have been for the past week. Prior to that, Gog loaded as quickly as normal. Every other site I'm visiting is loading at normal fast speeds. I just downloaded an HD movie from iTunes as a test (the new release of Empire Strikes Back, if you must know), and it finished within 20 minutes. Gog seems to be the only site I am using that is dog slow.

I'm in the "it may be the US" camp. I'm getting such wonderful download speeds as 7kb/s and 1kb/s. It's hilarious seeing a 544MB file take an estimated 5 days to download. Before, y'know...failing. Actually, I can't even get the gog downloader to install.

Yup. Those 3.5MBs are just TOO MUCH. It's failed on me twice and finished downloading once...only to tell me that there are corrupted files and to redownload the file.

I've tried downloading other programs (like itunes!) and they downloaded at my expected rate, and all my online games are chugging along at their normal paces.

So yeah. Might be all them 1s and 0s is gettin' tired runnin' 'cross the Atlantic through the intertubes.

Shmacky-McNuts: Have a laptop or a tablet? Go bum some ones wifi locally. The site can be used with HTTPS(if you just type in the S. Then it won't matter who's connection you tap in from. Go to a library, or heck, even a McDonalds has free wifi most places.
Not sure if that works. Usually when I try to use some "free wifi (for customers only)" in some McDonalds, hotels or elsewhere, it is quite slow and congested. Not sure if it is different in US.

But it would be still interesting to know if that is a general problem in his area (also with different ISPs, if possible).

I think it's a US server problem too. That's why I'm hoping after the "2015 CDN Test," GOG will finally figure out how to fix the obvious bottleneck in bandwidth that so many on GOG are experiencing. It's incredibly frustrating not being able to download any GOG game or update because of this.

Those speeds are ridiculous. Even I with my particularly bad wifi connection get better ones. Though I personally made the experience that I can only download one file at a time from GOG. When I downloaded Jade Empire for example I had to do it one fragment at a time (the installer is split in five ~1,5 GB parts), each lasting about an hour. I tried to download multiple parts at the same time and the estimated time for the downloads shot up around 3 hours or more.
If you download multiple installers from GOG at the same time, limiting yourself to one at a time might help.

With GOG's recent test to improve download speeds I assume things are in the process of being overhauled, so that might explain the current slow speeds.
I have also had the theory that the test itself might for its duration mess with download speeds. As far as I understand it, during the test two files are being downloaded temporarily to estimate the speed of the client. Perhaps this sort of traffic is putting an extra strain on the servers? All just conjecture though...

I hope it gets fixed in time and that you get the usual speed back sooner rather than later.

I've noticed that when I run the GOG CDN test, "Test#1" goes incredibly slow; basically it's the same slow, dial-up speed that I'm currently getting on GOG. But "Test#2" actually gives me a fast broadband connection. So I can only hope that GOG will switch to whatever servers "Test#2" represents. I hope they will fix the connection speeds soon, since I'm really getting tired of not being able to update my GOG games. :-/

Norwegian here.
I tried to download a game, and its slower here as well. On steam I get an average of 1,7, but here on Gog its from 0,7 to 1. 1

EDIT: and now I have 0, 2

Update: I went to two different public networks today and tried GOG downloads. The first, a public library, normally has a speedy connection, but GOG downloaded at exactly .1kb/s until it timed out. Then I went to the local university which has a extremely fast connection, and GOG gave me... .2kb/s.

I'm hoping they fix this soon.

I hope GOG will finally fix the slow download connections as well. There are a lot of people on GOG that are affected by this. But I'm wondering why they still haven't said anything about the CDN Test results.

Something is going on. I've gotten as high as 15MB/s (on my Ethernet connection) and as high as 8 to 9MB/s on my Wi-Fi, and the other day it was about 6 (see screenshot in my last post for exact speed) which isn't too awful, but tonight I'm downloading Arcanum and it's less than 2, and often less than 1. Much, much slower than usual.

We've been investigating this case a while ago, with IronArcturus's help, but haven't found anything conclusive yet.

I would like everyone affected who has download speeds below 200kB/s (we want to investigate the extreme cases, first) to perform a couple of checks, if possible, to hopefully help us discover what is wrong, and where.
Because it might not be a good idea to display stuff like your IP address publicly, please PM me this information. Unless you're OK with posting it, of course. :)

What we would like you to do is:
1) Restart your router and computer, if you haven't done that in a while (you would be surprised at the difference a simple restart can make during connection issues!).
2) Disable any peer-to-peer software you might have running, as these are very packet-heavy.
3) Let us know in case the above fix the download speed issues. But, if not...
4) Tell us what download speeds you're having now, and if they were better in the past (and, if so - when).
5) Check and send us your public IP address - you can check it here: www.whatsmyip.com .
6) Perform a traceroute to cdn.gog.com and www.gog.com (if the website is also slow for you). Details on how to do this can be found below.
7) Perform a ping to cdn.gog.com and www.gog.com (if needed). Again - details below. :)
8) Finally, send us the output from this page (it may take up to a minute for it to populate fully) http://wpc.11DF.edgecastcdn.net/002DCC/nc/headers.html?url=http://wpc.11DF.edgecastcdn.net/crossdomain.xml&req=GET

To perform a traceroute, press Winkey+R, type in:
cmd
then type in this command
tracert -d cdn.gog.com
or, if needed:
tracert -d www.gog.com
and press Enter.
Once the traceroute is complete, please expand the window, right-click, select "Mark", select the result and press Enter. This will copy the test to your clipboard - please paste the result to your PM.

The ping is almost identical, but the commands are:
ping cdn.gog.com
and, if needed,
ping www.gog.com

I know this is a lot to ask, but it should give us a better view of what might be causing the issue.

I often get less than 100kB/s, but I think it's a problem on my end since GOG is not the only website affected.
