Has anyone else been getting really slow, dial-up level downloads from GOG? Even with a broadband connection? It's been over a month and I still don't understand why I'm getting slow connections like this only on GOG: http://i.imgur.com/4lUDYsi.png

It should not take 10 hours to download a 250 MB GOG game. This is really getting ridiculous. I've sent multiple tickets to Support about this, and the issue still hasn't been resolved. I've contacted my ISP and they checked my broadband connection and they said the problem was on GOG's side. Will GOG ever fix this slow connection problem?

Have you tried using the downloader? Not that I think it'll help much, but... I'd try it with such slow speeds.

I had a couple of slow downloads too, two or three months ago. But this was very random and canceling the download and starting it again a few minutes later always solved the problem.
Since you made another thread about it, let me ask you two questions.

1) Is there another computer/internet device that you can use with your connection and if yes, does it still have the same problem?
2) Do you happen to know someone in your area with an internet connection? If yes, could you try asking him to allow you to use his connection to see if the results differ?

I've tried multiple computers on my connection and they all get the same slow connection to GOG. I've tried both the downloader and the website and they're both slow as well. I've asked a friend to check their connection to GOG, but they live in a different area.

I really want this slow downloading problem to be solved. I won't be able to use GOG anymore if the connection is going to be "7 KB/sec." It's just ridiculous and I really wish GOG could figure out what is wrong. :(

gog was overwhelmed by popularity today and they made a download speed survey recently so it's most likely that they're just maintenancing/upgrading
in other words, just chill :D

I occasionally get these as well. I was using the downloader to DL some installers for backup, and a 17GB file on a 50Mb/s (about 7MB/s) left overnight only got just over halfway. It should have taken about 2-3 hours at WORST. Not Peak usage time on my end (I was able to download a similar file on Steam in 3 hours overnight, not the same night either). So it's likely a switch between us and them or their servers being swamped already because they don't throttle anyone at all, so it becomes first come, first served for bandwidth from their servers.
Just a few things to check -

- Turning off firewall and stopping any other downloads
- Using a cabled connection (if using a wifi)
- Downloading the game from a phone or tablet
- Flushing your DNS cache (read: https://www.whatsmydns.net/flush-dns.html)

It is not to be excluded that the issue could be outside your house, such as a routing issue somewhere between you and the various server hops. I've had this problem with an MMO a few years ago where it lagged a lot while other games were perfectly fine.
Your download from GOG could be passing through a number of servers on its way to you, any of which could be the cause of your slow download speeds. The problem could be at GOG's end, but it could be at any of the servers between it and you i.e. it could be out of GOG's control.

You could try running a traceroute to perhaps get an idea of where the problem lies. It's a simple test, you'll find instructions here:

http://www.passionateaboutit.net/KnowledgeBase/tabid/113/EntryId/52/how-to-perform-a-traceroute-in-microsoft-windows-7.aspx

If possible, you could also try using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to change the route your download takes.

Hope you can solve it.

I've tried all of those suggestions, but unfortunately the GOG connection is still slow. Everything about this problem is pointing to a GOG server issue. I've sent multiple tickets to Support about this downloading issue, but unfortunately the problem still hasn't been resolved.

Mine is a bit slower than what I've seen, but it's not out of the ordinary, and certainly not ridiculously slow (see screenshot). If it were a GOG server issue, wouldn't it affect most everyone downloading from GOG?

GOG did some network test lately, so that they could be even slower than before. XD

I still don't understand why it's going as slow as 7 KB/sec. I really wish Support would get back to me about this issue. :-/

Have a laptop or a tablet? Go bum some ones wifi locally. The site can be used with HTTPS(if you just type in the S. Then it won't matter who's connection you tap in from. Go to a library, or heck, even a McDonalds has free wifi most places.
So here is a screenshot of the wonderful transfer rate I'm getting from GOG right now: http://i.imgur.com/Vz8rhlP.png
:(

And yet all the other websites I visit work fine and they give me a broadband connection. I don't know what else to do about this. I've been asking GOG if they are throttling my connection, but I haven't received a response yet. Right now I basically have no way of downloading any of my GOG games anymore. :(

Most of the people who complain about slow speeds on GOG lately are from the US. Maybe there is something wrong on the Internet on the way from GOG's servers to the US.

Everything is fine here with download speeds around 15-17 MB/s.
