FrodoBaggins: Tomorrow's Friday. It would be lovely to start the weekend with Return To Monkey Island
I wouldn't have the time this weekend ... but damn I would appreciate that nonetheless.

Guybrush, and Elaine, and LeChuck, and the three pirate leaders, and the three new pirate leaders, and Herman Toothrot, and Stan, and Otis, and the Swordmaster, the Scumm bar chef, and of course all the new cast!

Maybe even a large pair of knockers...
I can hold my breath for 10 minutes! And I'll do that, until it comes DRM-free to GOG.
TODAY

... or not.

wdcp: Return to Monkey Island is not in Steam’s Top 10 anymore. It’s also not promoted on the start page at all.
Seems like most people, who wanted it there, got it there. So, they could release it on other platforms now.
I'd say that they first put it on Epic before they come here.
Think about it like this:

We still haven't received confirmation that Return to Monkey Island will in fact release on GOG. We've just heard rumors, as if they don't want to generate any buzz about a GOG release at all (which nicely keeps their sales consolidated on Stema (I just typed this wrong, but refuse to correct)).

Now if they really positively desperately want to generate as little buzz and as few sales on GOG as humanly possible, and it strangely looks exactly like that, releasing today would actually be ideal.

GOG just released motherfucking Skyrim!

Honestly, I don't know if I still WANT to support Ron anbd RtMI anymore. I asked multiple times on Twitter and got ignored completely. For somebody who always speaks out I have expected to get at least a short reply. Many purchases of Monkey Island were done because of GOG - good old games back then. Now we are treated like shit. I know that there are good devs that care about GOGers as well and bad devs that don't care. There are quite a lot of good devs and I prefer to give my money to those. Take "Brok: The InvestiGator" i.e. completely on par with Steam when it comes to features, DLCs and updates ... first day release on GOG and the dev is always there when you have questions. Why on earth should I give my hard earned money to people who consider my purchase to be a nice but not necessarily wanted bonus ... probably treating me and possible future updates the same? Yes, I was interested in the game but not getting a single word about a GOG release at all makes me so angry that I guess I'd feel better to not reward this by buying the game.

And another release window gone.

I'm more in a waning interest phase than flat out anger, but sure, I'm a little pissed off as well. At whom, that's the question of course. 10 days before Skyrim would have been a really great release spot, but one day after Skyrim is a horrible one – so bad that GOG officials might even have told Devolver "bad idea".

Ah well, there goes the weekend. I'm beginning to appreciate that this wasn't planned to be a weekend anyway.

Come on, Ron Gilbert made very great games, there is no reason to suddenly not like him or not support him any more.

The previous one (Thimbleweed Park) wasn't just a great point'n'click adventure game but following its development was awesome.
It's a bummer all of this wasn't possible with RtMI (but then also most TWP players didn't/couldn't).

It's also crazy he was able to get the license in the first place (with for him acceptable terms), but now he isn't the publisher as he was with TWP and just can't do what he wants.
Especially communication is all up to what the publisher allows. (Ron probably doesn't have any time anyway, I'm sure there is still stuff to do and bugs to fix.)

TL;DR: Let's blame the publisher.

Not everyone cares about Skyrim.

I know. I certainly don't. But GOG would be stupid not to ride this wave.

What the heck? Just look at that awesome armour!
Who wouldn't like to play a game which includes such great looking armour? I would even pre-order - on GOG - such a game.

Well played, of course. ;)

I've lost the taste for open world games for a bit, it's just so much time they ask of you. And ... I've heard of level scaling shenannigans ("not in the traditional sense"), which I abhor.

Now, if GOG gave us the opportunity to pre-order Return to Monkey Island ...

I think we need to give him the benefit of the doubt here. As you say, the lack of response is uncharacteristic of him, which to me implies that he has been ordered not to talk about it by either Disney or Devolver.
