Ancient-Red-Dragon: I just watched a youtube video which confirms the fact that they censored Pierre's jacket in these "Tomb Raider Remastered" games.

Remastering is not supposed to include the addition of new censorship, yet these butchered games do exactly that anyway. What a ripoff!
They are absolutely not butchered at all ... but yes, the censoring was unnecessary (as every censoring is) and should be reversed imo - especially since they promised us in a lengthy disclaimer that they decided to keep the originals as they were including all things that could be considered to be "offensive" in 2024 (even though nobody cared in 1996 - but that's another story ;)).

vv221: Thanks for giving me an extra incentive to buy these remasters. Anything triggering incels deserves getting my money ;)
How did you come to the conclusion that Ancient-Red-Dragon is an incel? Maybe you don't know what that is supposed to be so I looked it up:

"The term "involuntary celibate" (shortened to "incel") refers to self-identifying members of an online subculture based around the inability to find a romantic or sexual partner despite desiring one"

So not wanting censoring in a game is now the same as being alone without a romance ... it's a bit hard for me to draw this conclusion honestly.

WinterSnowfall: Fair point, but to a limited audience, namely those who played them back in the day, looking better might not be a positive factor.

Time4Tea: As someone who played TR1 on release, I'm not hugely impressed with the look that I'm seeing in screenshots and videos of this remaster. The graphics look too bright and colorful, almost 'cartoony'. It doesn't seem very faithful to the dark, gloomy, foreboding atmosphere of the original games, imo.

So, I find it a bit strange that so many seem to be praising 'the graphics'. In what way are they an improvement (besides just higher resolutions, which can be achieved with several open-source engines)?

As an example, the screenshot on the GOG store page of her with the lion - it looks way too bright and colorful. I know which level that is (one of my favorites) and I don't recall it looking that 'gaudy'. I mean, the lion looks like it came straight out of The Lion King ...
It is a different look - sure - but that was intended. If you want the originals not just to play but also to look as the originals you probably should only play the originals. There's nothing wrong with doing this. When they first announced the remastered versions I was sceptical and didn't even put them on my wishlist. I guess one or two days before release I watched a gameplay video and I was simply amazed. They changed the look but still kept the atmosphere and the gameplay. However we have the exact situation WinterSnowfall was talking about earlier: some people simply want everything to look exactly the same because they think that's exactly how these games should look. So there is not much room for a remaster to improve things because - at least that is my opinion - a remaster is trying to find the fine line between original and new and for some the "new" part might already be too different from the original. In my opinion they found the almost perfect balance (with the exception of lighting in some sections). So yes, if you dislike the look of the remastered versions because it is too different for your taste that is understandeable. As always in such cases it is a purely subjective thing. I still did not buy the Blade Runner remaster because I think they did not really improve the originals but here they absolutely did - in my honest opinion.

Swedrami: Funny, because most, if not all of the time the remastered visuals are actually significantly darker than the original ones, here on my end at least. The contrast is quite staggering, especially when switching from one version to the other and back again.
avatar
Time4Tea: Hmm, ok. That doesn't come across at all from any of the videos/screenshots that I've seen. In fact, they give me the exact opposite impression.
Take a look here and there's absolutely no doubt that the remastered versions are darker:

Yes, I think I fall into that camp you describe: I played the originals back in the day and am pretty happy with the way they look and control. So, I guess there just isn't much here for me with the remaster.

If others like them then fair enough, but I don't think they're for me. I'm happy, just as long as they don't take down the originals.

From their history on this forum in general, and from the post I answered to specifically.

Thanks, but I already know what this word means ;)

The incel community is well-known for their "anti-woke" crusade causing them to cry each time some of their fapping material is removed from a game, a movie, etc.
Are they gonna do Chronicles and Last Revelation too?

The fact that they bothered to censor a pixelated girl on a jacket says more about the people behind the remaster than those criticizing the change, just why

I don't care about the people behind the remaster, I care about the remaster. I'll never talk to those people, but I play the game.

Yeah, I'd say you should reread some defintions (because what you said simply made no sense). Also you should learn the difference between fapping material and censoring. I doubt that many used the leather jacket of a pixelated NPC in tomb raider as fapping material ... especially since he is an enemy and you won't even have the possibility to fap while fighting him ;)

It is a pity that we need a mod to uncensor an "uncensored game" - but thank you for the link.

True. I don't really care much if the babe on his back has a bra on or not tbh, but it was designed that way so ...

The game seems to be very mod friendly, they already have 80 mods (including mandatory topless mods).

Whatever one doesn't like about the game, there will probably be someone else who writes a mod for it.

The comic style cell shader looks nice.

Definitions don't matter. It only matters that you can attach any label with a negative connotation to anyone you dislike or disagree with, because people are not individuals with diverse views on a multiplicity of issues but members of two opposing tribes called Us and Them.

Anyway, you're trying to have a rational covnersation with someone willing to buy things not because he likes them, but because someone else doesn't, and thinks people and their entire families should be murdered because of their heritage. Good luck with that.

Oh ... okay. Thanks for the heads up - I guess I stop the conversation in that case.

I get what you mean, but it's all the same if they're in charge of it

Dunno, I see Lara shooting bad guys, wolves and dinosaurs, just like in the old days. Did they change that?

Who doesn't like the new version, can always play the original. No one is forced to buy this.

I don't fit the definition of incels and disagree with the censoring. Why do people use these buzz words?

Crosmando: Are they gonna do Chronicles and Last Revelation too?
Those two probably need a remaster more than the original trilogy

I have one question: why not have the option of censoring certain things in games for people who are offended by them? We used to have games that would have the option to change blood color for various reasons.

So why not this?
