5 bucks to get more immersion story telling playtime is a deal, I dont see this as a shady practice, it enables them to keep the development going, pay bills and keep alive. bought

Agreed, at this price I have no qualms, seems totally worth picking up.

Frozen: It means they're not independent. You know... stock market, investors etc.
According to Wiki they are listed as an indie developer... "individuals or teams which produce indie games but are not owned by or receive significant financial backing from a video game publisher."

But I don´t get what this has to do with my argument that selling Season Pass by a small developer smells?

inc09nito: A fricking season pass, for an indie game? WTH happened to the world?
Don't be surprised: Telltale Games is also an indie game studio and almost all of their recent games came with their common business model: a season pass. But it seems it's working for them so i guess 11bit thought something like: "Why not we do what they do?". After all, this is the future of PC gaming that we were promised; and it happens now! *shrugs*

Having said that, Stories seem to offer something more than "horse armors" and since they aren't required in order to fully enjoy the main game (each DLC is a different story if i understand it correctly), i'm OK with that. Time will tell if it is worth it, but i can see promise in them. Also, the 80% discount on the main game is great.

1. IMO, Wikipedia is not a reliable source in anything.
2. 11bit Studios is publishing games too.
3. I'm not saying that selling Season Pass by a small developer is okay. I'm just saying that 11bit Studios shouldn't be labeled "indie" when the investors' board is involved. That's all.

It shouldn't be limited to publishers: receiving any significant funding from any outside source (arguably including crowdfunding campaigns, but certainly including outside investors purchasing shares) pretty much disqualifies a developer from being considered independent.

I won´t argue with that, although I don´t thing their income would be anywhere comparable to big publishers with the games in their portfolio (they don´t seem to be appealing to mainstream gamer).

I would argue with that: Kickstarter, when used right (which can be said just about anything, classic publishers included) offers great deal of freedom for developers + instant interaction with fandom + possibility to tweak game based on the target group before it is released.

Obligations to people who backed your game are a bit different, usually it is enough when you communicate regularly and show you are still working on the game + they are far more willing to bear with delays than publishers.

I don´t think there are too many developers out there, small, indie, developers, who would be able to finance a game out of their pockets. Based on your argument, almost no developer could be called indie.

Which is why I said crowdfunding being a disqualifier is arguable (I'd say you'd have to take that on a case-by-case basis). But a publicly-traded company with shareholders to answer to can certainly not be called "independent" in any meaningful sense. I can pretty well guarantee that having the right (meaning wrong) group of clueless investors on board a dev studio that's had a brush with success would be at least as damaging and self-defeating as the worst greedy asshole publisher.

I keep seeing This War Of Mine stuff coming to take my money... but all I want is a DLC that bring zombies to the mix... I know, I know, with that kind of DLC this game will loose the seriousness it has about the sadness and pain the war causes on civil population (in fact, I get kinda depressed everytime I play it T_T)...

But think twice and you'll see this zombie DLC idea plus the atmosphere This War Of Mine creates has potential to keep us playing even more ;D

How stupid of me... seems like I will wait a long time to complete the missing DLCs. I will wait it out until 80% off.
War in Video Games? It never changes. Season Passes and DLC will always be a part of it.
