Lodium: You said it yourself that you can understand why somone find it annoying.
Why, because the artist dared to use his imagination?
avatar
real.geizterfahr: No, I can't understand it "because an artist dared to use his imagination". I can understand it because it's a simple fact that different people have different tastes. That's not too hard to understand... When I can find it annoying that devs of AAA games love stupid kill move or death animations in almost every game nowadays (Tomb Raider reboot, Far Cry, Skyrim, etc.), or that some characters make the impression that they're designed to appeal to 12 years old kids (Adam "I'm too cool for you" Jensen), why should it be impossible for someone else to dislike kids in revealing clothes? Are you a SJW nowadays just because you know that everyone's taste is different?

Your post is another, perfect example of what I meant with "That whole SJW crap completely fucked up your brains. You guys look like total idiots who have to defend their child porn." I say "Not everyone likes the same things" and you jump in to defend something with "Why, because the artist dared to use his imagination?" -.- Did I say they should've given that poor kid some proper clothes? Nope, I even said the contrary. Did I say that Starmaker's right and that this game should be designed to appeal to everyone? Nope, I even said the contrary. Did I say the "artist" (dude who designed the character) is a fucking pervert and child abuser? Nope, I even said the contrary (that this is even harmless for Japan, where the culture is pretty different from ours). All I said is that I can understand why some people might find kids in sexy clothes annoying/wrong. And you jump in to talk about "the artist", which is just another way to say "Are you against freedom of art?"

Yes, yes, I know... SJWs try to ruin every game with discussions about PC bullshit. But you anti-SJWs (or whatever) aren't any better. When I criticised Tomb Raider for its over the top gory death animations, no one told me to shut the fuck up and to respect the artist's ideas. Some people agreed, some people disagreed. But I had a normal discussion about unnecessary gore with everyone. When I criticised Deus Ex Human Revolution for it's bland main character (a super cool, stone cold killer with sunglasses and a leather mantle -.-), some people agreed and some people disagreed. But we had a normal discussion about character design. No one told me anything about "artists", trying to push that "freedom of art" argument. So why do you guys do exactly that when someone criticises a part of a game that's got to do something with the portrayal of women (or little girls)? It's just a fucking opinion. Agree or disagree, discuss like you'd discuss with anyone else, but don't tell people that kids wear bikinis on beaches and that everyone who understands a differing opinion is filthy SJW scum. All you achieve with that is to look just as stupid as your beloved SJWs.
Yes, yes, typical SJW,s trhowing innsults around rather than discussing the subject matter.
Also no real people are wearing skimpy clothing in the game.
Skimpy clothing arent even considered child porn because then we woud need to ban child bikinis, Fashion show for children, certian tribes around the globe that wear virtually nothing, etc.
You are also mistaken when you say people dont speak up when certian crusaders are protesting against voilence or gore in videogames with your tomb raider example. Maybe you persoinally havent experienced it. But i can trhow you a link if you want.
But im done discussing this. Talking to SJW,s are like talking to a wall. As i said get a grip.

What exactly is the "subject matter" here?

I didn't realize this. Thanks for letting me know...

real.geizterfahr: Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't even care if all of the characters were naked... It's just a game.

Who said they're child porn? I just said you guys look as if you have to defend something as bad as child porn when you try to defend the clothes of a game character with arguments like "Kids wear bikinis on beaches".

1. I'm not your "certain crusader". Ask dtgreene how often I called it "dude", or how often I told it to keep the gender crap out of this forum. Ask vainamoinen (or what ever he is spelled) if I'm a SJW or some far right scum. But honestly: If it makes me a SJW when I can see the reasons behind someone's arguments, then I'll proudly be a SJW from now on. Better a SJW than an idiot who calls everyone a SJW who shares his opinion but understands where the opinions of others could come from.

2. Learn to read. I didn't "protest" against gore in Tomb Raider. I only criticised it. There's a difference between "Why must even games like Tomb Raider come with gory death animations now?" and "Grab the pitchforks! We need to purge the world of scum like Squeenix." The world is not only black and white. You can criticise things without hating everything that's got to do anything with it. The Tomb Raider reboot is one of my favorite games from the last 10 years, despite that I don't like the gore, the excessive shooter parts, the lack of tombs, the too easy puzzles and the crapload of collectibles on every map. Must be pretty hard to get for you how it can be one of my favorite games when I "protest" against so many things... Back in the old world, we called this a "differentiated view". Most of humanity lost it when we first plugged an ethernet cable into our heads...

Talking to idiots who can't read is like talking to idiots who can't read. You can quote yourself over and over again, but they still don't get that they're defending their views against someone who shares them. It's funny sometimes, but always gets boring after two or three posts.

real.geizterfahr: I'm out of here... Since that whole Gamergate vs. SJW crap you can't have any normal discussion anymore -.- You won.
No you apparently don't understand the argument I was putting forth. You can't deny that there are a bunch of people wanting to dumb down our games or influence what they should contain and what not.

I wasn't saying that because it's fictional anything goes. I was saying quite the opposite that just because it's fictional it shouldn't prevent real themes being used in order to be on the side of "correctness". You say you can see why someone may object to it but at the same time can't seem to see why we would object to the objections, calling it defending something, even when I've stated I'm not defending anything as I don't see anything that needs defending. To me it's the same as saying I'm defending the use of bread as a prop when I'm actually saying I don't see why it shouldn't be used as a prop.

So you may have a problem with me bringing in SJWs here but you've also just brush off any argument given. If that's how this debate is going to be I don't see any use for it.

pmcollectorboy: I hope the remake of Dragon's Crown leaves the Sorceress intact. >.>
I'm no overly PC type person, but I actually passed on this game because that was just over the top and downright stupid - I mean seriously taking the piss. And this is coming from someone that thinks DOA is the best fighting series out there.

Anyway - game related - this series looks sort of interesting. Aside from lore and "world building" stuff, if at some point in the future I want to jump in, do I miss out on anything by jumping into this set first? Obviously I'd probably go for Trails of Cold Steel (it seems like this one is a continuation of the story of the characters introduced in the first) but can I safely hold off on Trails in the Sky (or whatever it's called - I actually was mildly interested as it looks pretty neat, but it's my impression these are HUGE games).

The series itself currently consists of three story arcs (the Sky games, the Crossbell games and the Cold Steel games) and both Trails in the Sky FC and Trails of Cold Steel I are considered suitable jump-in points. All three arcs (of which currently only the Sky arc and the first half of the Cold Steel arc have been localized) take place in different (but neighboring) countries and feature different casts and protagonists and currently take place in the span of 4 years.

You do miss out a little bit by jumping in at the Cold Steel arc. For example, fairly early on, your oblivious team is approached by an eccentric guy offering his assistence. A new player to the series would be merely scratching his head in a "what's up with this guy"-kind of way. A player familiar with the Sky games OTOH would have a big "Oh crap"-reaction because that guy was one of the antagonists in the Sky games, followed by a "you're approaching me like this and you're not even disguising yourself?". Cold Steel also spoils a few things about the Sky games, but never goes into the details.

Overall though, even if you miss some "Aha"-moments, Cold Steel is still perfectly playable without playing Sky first because the cast consists of a bunch of high school students who weren't involved in the events in the Sky games, so they're free to focus on their own challenges without the player being required to be aware of meta plot elements and the adults who do know more about stuff that happens behind the scenes usually tell you not to worry about things and just concentrate on your own quest.

Here's to hoping that we don't have to wait long for the version 1.1 patch available on Steam!

Hey awesome just saw this - thanks for taking the time for the lenghty writeup! I'll be honest I wasn't really familiar with the series so this helps a lot.
