A smashing new part of the cult fighting games series has just jumped into the ring. THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV GALAXY EDITION is now available DRM-free on GOG.COM with a 50% discount until 8th April, 1 PM UTC. Created by a veteran creator of FATAL FURY series, Yasuyuki Oda, the game gives you an adrenaline-rushing gameplay, neat 3D visuals, and over 50 fighters that are ready to rumble.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: This problem of multiplayer on GOG being completely unviable requires systematic change to be implemented on GOG's part, i.e. GOG could sign a deal with Steam to let GOG games piggyback off of the Steam API for their multiplayer portion.
Uh, you do realize that this would basically integrate one third of Steam's DRM into games purchased on GOG, don't you? (The other two thirds being CEG — game's executable needing the store client to run — and the Steam workshop — holding the game's mods hostage.) *

Besides, tell me what is the point of a customer picking an alternative to a popular service when said alternative relies on using that very service with a coat of paint above it?

Let's say you're pissed with Walmart's business practices to the point you want to support their competitors. I, always the savvy businessman, offer to provide said alternative: you tell me what you want to buy and I will make a run to the same Walmart store you used to go to to pick your products of choice. Does that make sense?

* @everyone: Not interested in discussing technicalities and legal definitions of what constitutes DRM, please. It's not like we have hundreds of other threads dealing with the subject, right?

The_Gypsy: There goes what little interest I had left after seeing the price.
Yeah, this game rarely ever goes on sale for a reasonable discount (though with it coming here to GOG maybe that will change, but I won't be holding my breath on that), if you're the type who enjoys a bargain at least. It's part of the reason why everyone on the Steam side of things went mental when Fanatical threw it into a bundle recently because the price it was at in it was the lowest it had gone in quite some time.

I'm not completely unreasonable about discounts but the lack of parity and the pricing on the DLCs is enough to put me off buying it right away. It won't bother me if I have to wait a little longer for a more acceptable price when it took years to hit GOG in the first place. It'll be nice to get this DRM free at some point down the line though.
Bought it, even IF it is very expensive with all DLCs.

This will be the ONLY Beat Em Up we can get from a "larger studio" DRM free.

Capcom? Nope. Team Ninja? Nope. Other japanese publishers? Nope.

So my money goes to SNK, as there are no alternatives any more. Very sad world for a DRM free gamer who likes such titles...

1. This is not Beat 'em up. This is Fighting.
2. Theoretically, we still have a chance for newer parts of Mortal Kombat and Injustice (WBIE occasionally shows signs of life. Recently we got MK4, for example).
3. If SNK built in support for multiplayer via LAN or Direct Connect, there would be a completely different conversation. It would be easier for them (than to build-in a dull Galaxy) and could be backported to the Steam version (thus ensuring cross-store multiplayer).

P.S. I’m still very glad that the game is here (things are not very good here with good fighting games) and sooner or later I will buy it.
I do wish GOG offered more drop down menu complete editions as it's easier to keep track of what you have and don't have.

I just wanted to point out that the chances of MK9 released here recently took a nosedive since it can be no longer bought on Steam (probably due to copyright issues).

Because of Freddy Krueger.

Probably, but here are still inconsistencies with that - PS3 Komplete Edition with Freddy is still available from what I've heard but the standard one is not.

I am aware, but I suspect that the problem can be solved and the game will return to sale (though the guest character Freddy Krueger will be cut out from there, because most likely he is the content for which the license has been lost - "last year, the U.S. rights to the character reverted back to creator Wes Craven's estate").

The problem is - there is no PC version without Freddy. The game only came out as a Komplete Edition, so changes to the port itself would have to be made. Somehow I doubt WB would be willing to put any more money into development (like they have simply abandoned MK Arcade Kollection when GFWL problems stared popping up).

This is a possible scenario, but I still hope that being quite popular, they will remake Komplete Edition now and will re-release it.
It is a pity, of course, that GOG did not organize the sale of MK:KE while it was on sale. In the end, WBI is sometimes active here, which means there was a chance. Now the situation has become much worse in terms of perspective.

I have abandoned hope for the newer MKs, they would already be here IF Warner would be interrested in selling them DRM free (and that is the only problem here. DRM free is nothing Warner is interrested in). Since the last one is full of garbage microtransactions I count it as completely lost and a "game as a service".

The only MK game we MAYBE can still expect to come here is "Mortal Kombat Trilogy" as an arcade port like MK4.

IF Warner can be bothered with allowing such a release. I strongly doubt that.

Yeah I have hope for that to come eventually especially since we recently got MK4 and it's got 1.8k+ votes on the wishlist.

Well, no one expected to see MK4, so Trilogy is entirely possible.

Though, "arcade port..." Was Trilogy ever in arcades?
