It's time to celebrate the 14 years of making games last forever. We're doing that by releasing one of the most anticipated games by the community – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The game is widely considered one of the best video games of all time and has received credit for popularizing large open-world role-playing games. After many requests from our users and being released on almost every appliance that is able to run the game, the acclaimed RPG is available on GOG in two versions – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition (-50%) and Special Edition (-67%).

It is worth mentioning that Skyrim on GOG comes with a dedicated build, to give users the best possible adventure in Tamriel. The game is entirely playable offline thanks to GOG’s DRM-free nature and gives users the Anniversary Edition content without the need for Creation Club access.

As the game is recognized as one of the most modded titles in the history of video games, support for community-created content in Skyrim was one of our top priorities. The GOG version is compatible out of the box with most modifications mods via Nexus Mods Vortex v1.6.12 and newer. Support for mods requiring Skyrim Script Extender will be added later today. Additionally, GOG is preparing something special to provide an even smoother experience with mods – expect more details soon.

Take the chance to travel to Tamriel before the discounts on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim editions end on 13th October, 10 PM UTC. Also, join us in celebration of the 14th GOG Anniversary which will last until October 9th, 2022, at 10 PM UTC.

sanscript: Yeah, this has seriously nagged me throughout the day at work, so I just saw this. :D

Thanks. Seems it's almost like the weird pathing error that has been plaguing a few Enderal players; somehow the save paths got mixed up and it kept looking in Skyrim SE and not Enderal SE (don't remember atm if it was in the game, the tc, or due to MO2...).
Yeah whilst the new pathing is good as at least I can keep my older modded Steam version working until GOG's one is modded, its also a hinderance as things will need to be updated.

I've put modding GOG's version on hold for the moment as mods and things will need to be updated, and running it with certain mods like the Unofficial Patch will most likely break things for the moment.

But nothing has been locked or anything like that it all just needs time, and as people have been saying because GOG's version is DRM free and you can control updates easier its expected this will become the new goto version eventually.
Didn't realize there was an issue with modding the game, that is a massive disappointment...

Edit: Will play around with the config diles later today as I don't want to use a mod manager.

If you're referring to my post that was just me having a virtual, but sarcastic tantrum. :D

There's always a bit of chaos when things get updated, even at work our phones get completely smelted like iron ingot once there is a tiny update.

I'm sure everything will be ok once things settles...

Bigger and better are different qualities tho, I'd argue Skyrim is the biggest TES (especially if we include all the mods from the Anniversary edition, since some of those are really meaty) while Morrowind is my personal favorite

ncameron: I recommend, though, unless you seriously hate using mod managers, Mod Organiser 2 is a wonderful little tool. The thing which I most like about it is that it allows you to keep mod files away from the Skyrim install itself, so you don't have the mess of files where you're not sure which are original Skyrim files and which are mods
Wrye Bash works too, for the pythonically inclined (or Linux folk), albeit it uses the wrong folders (the GOG version of Skyrim appends "GOG" to its usual config folders) - nothing a quick copy-paste can't correct. Together with LOOT it gets the job done well enough.

For a bit of "doom and gloom" and pure RPG mechanics, Morrowind. For an idyllic high-fantasy setting with ruins glowing in the sunset and rich urban life, Oblivion... but highly modded only (Unofficial patches + OOO at least). Mechanics got dumbed down as the TES number increased, sadly. That being said, I quite liked the action-RPG approach of Oblivion, call me a heretic :P.

Fixing the issue isn't too bad it seems. :)

Edit: Meh, quite a list of mods won't work with the gog version.

Morrowind, only people with poor taste would deny it.

LiefLayer: Morrowind
Just be aware that Morrowind does have its quirks. For example:
* The game uses an invisible dice roll to determine whether your attacks hit. Hence, you can be facing an enemy, right in front of it, swing your weapon, and the dice could decide that you miss this time. Unfortunately, there's no feedback given when this happens, as opposed to your attack simply not colliding. (There are ways to increase your chance of hitting, the most obvious being to raise your weapon skill.)
* The game does not attempt to remain balanced. In particular, the game does not pose any resistance to being exploited. If you find something that looks like it might be exploitable, it probably is. (For example, there's no reasonable limit on how powerful a potion can get, so using Fortify Intelligence/Luck potions can allow you to break the game by boosting your stats exponentially.)
* Like every other main series TES game, the game is filled with bugs. Some things may not work as you'd expect, and the game does sometimes crash, so be prepared for that. (Remember: Save early, often, and in multiple slots.) Note that there are some mods (and even an engine rewrite) that try to address this.

If you're going based on land area, and you exclude Arena (because the wilderness areas don't have finite sizes), then Daggerfall is clearly the biggest TES game. In fact, it is almost certainly *too* big.

Except that Daggerfall is clearly more complex than Arena.

About the bugs I used OpenMW to play it without a problem. While I have to say that I actually think the first two points as positive... I love that you can exploit a game if you know where to look and how to move, that's part of the fun for me, explore all possibilities and be awarded for your effort. And I like the dice roll... I think that's more RPG-like style of combat system.

My main issue with the dice roll is that it isn't communicated at all. Even an optional “missed” message displayed somewhere would be an improvement.

The only exception to the rule, fair enough :P.

You can hear a miss sound.

LiefLayer: You can hear a miss sound.
Yes, but that does not help the main problem at all, since the animation indicates that you have hit. So what you see is really wrong.
