It's time to celebrate the 14 years of making games last forever. We're doing that by releasing one of the most anticipated games by the community – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The game is widely considered one of the best video games of all time and has received credit for popularizing large open-world role-playing games. After many requests from our users and being released on almost every appliance that is able to run the game, the acclaimed RPG is available on GOG in two versions – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition (-50%) and Special Edition (-67%).

It is worth mentioning that Skyrim on GOG comes with a dedicated build, to give users the best possible adventure in Tamriel. The game is entirely playable offline thanks to GOG’s DRM-free nature and gives users the Anniversary Edition content without the need for Creation Club access.

As the game is recognized as one of the most modded titles in the history of video games, support for community-created content in Skyrim was one of our top priorities. The GOG version is compatible out of the box with most modifications mods via Nexus Mods Vortex v1.6.12 and newer. Support for mods requiring Skyrim Script Extender will be added later today. Additionally, GOG is preparing something special to provide an even smoother experience with mods – expect more details soon.

Take the chance to travel to Tamriel before the discounts on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim editions end on 13th October, 10 PM UTC. Also, join us in celebration of the 14th GOG Anniversary which will last until October 9th, 2022, at 10 PM UTC.
I am very happy with this additon to my collection - right on time and a good price!

Recently i bought an external 4TB Harddrive so i can store all my GOG installation files so i will probably make the test with Skyrim to see how well it works.

Any Chance GTA IV and V will occur here?

Or the first game of "The Settlers" from Blue Byte bcs that is the only one with a random map generator and infinite replayability plus the very nice music score.

Thx GOG for great games that you can own the installation files for!

PS: Will Skyrim need online access to the Bethesda Club to have the Anniversary Edition work?
Just wanted to say it's been a very long time waiting super patiently for this to release here so for me to see this appear on the home page of GOG, on a Thursday, I was completely shocked. A big thank-you to the GOG team and Bethesda for doing this!

Now, I'm hoping that I didn't purchase the wrong version earlier today but I was under the impression that Special Edition would be the same sort of update parity version like Anniv. Edition? (just without that Creation Club stuff tacked on - let's be honest, noone liked CC even when it was first announced all those years ago...). Can GOG Staff / Bethesda / mod creators collectively confirm that Special Edition is still good for everyone as far as keeping their mods and tools updated? If that's not possible, then I'm going to have to put in my first ever refund request (which I've never had to do) because I mistakenly got the SE version when I should've gotten the AE version instead?

I understand that in this same news post the GOG team says "GOG version is compatible out of the box with most modifications mods via Nexus Mods Vortex v1.6.12 and newer. Support for mods requiring Skyrim Script Extender will be added later today. Additionally, GOG is preparing something special to provide an even smoother experience with mods – expect more details soon." But a majority of people within the modding community use MO2 launcher from Discord / Github instead of Vortex from Nexus and a bunch of other tools to make a great vanilla+ or super modded experience for a majority of Bethesda created titles.

More clarity upon the Special Edition and Anniversary Editions would be greatly appreciated especially if more people decide to purchase Special Edition over the Anniv. Edition. Thanks again!

shmerl: Just tried running Skyrim in Wine, installing it with lgogdownloader galaxy method.

How can I configure graphics settings in it? Starting their SkyrimSELauncher.exe shows no options in the menu, only start and support.

Starting SkyrimSE.exe directly doesn't have anything to configure either.

Does their launcher need some special parameters to give access to configurator?
As this is a DirectX game, I recommend using DXVK, which will have best performance outside of Steam Play. You might encounter some stuttering at first, as the DX shaders compile, but then you are good, untill you change your drivers or GPU, that is.
I did not test the GOG version, but I expect it to be the same, regardeless

Just install it on your wine prefix then run your game as usual using winehq
Which version has callouts? As in, when clicking the game desktop icon. Does either make any callouts at all?

Enough people are buying both. Anyone seeing anything in their firewalls or outgoing traffic, please let us know here. Feel free to reply to my message to tell me directly.

Second question. Can I download a mod manually feom someplace and install it the old way; unzip, copy paste where needed?
I can't believe it!
It's finally here. I remember few years ago we used to joke about it.

Thanks gig team!

An_dz: Should be under "Options" in the launcher
No such entry in the menu in the launcher for me.

An_dz: Another options is to simply merge the options in the Low, Medium, High and Ultra INI files in the game dir with the SkyrimPrefs.ini in the game save location (Documents/My Games/Skyrim Special Edition)
Yep, that's exactly what I did now. But can't figure out how to remove 60 fps cap. Method from PC Gaming Wiki doesn't work (setting iPresentInterval=0 or iVSyncPresentInterval=0).

Yes, I'm already using dxvk for it.

eslofe: Hello - I cannot find where to submit a customer support ticket because the bot won't let me start over without having to upload some sort of file (not relevant to my query) and I need help.

I just bought Skyrim Anniversary Edition but the website gave me the Skyrim Special Edition to download. How to contact someone to give me the correct purchase?

Thanks,
eslofe

Grargar: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is Skyrim Special Edition + Anniversary DLC. If you are using Galaxy, it should be automatically downloaded alongside the game. If you are not, it should be available to download under the base game's installer.
and ssling - thank you both so much for your help!
And I just bought the AU on steam not too long ago.
A little meme about this release (mind Persona 5 spoilers!):

Also, I'm actually surprise it made its way here. I wasn't even expecting it to come any more.

This is what's up!
The very definition of overrated and I really don't like it for how it has likely permanently shifted the paradigm in regards to what normies expect an open-world RPG to be like, glad for everyone else who was waiting for it to show up on GOG though.

Can't beat March, 7th 2019, as far as planet-cracking, hell-freezing-over, pigs-do-can-fly moments in GOG's release history are concerned.
Oh my goodness gracious! What a pleasant surprise! So nice for this game to be available on GOG. And it's payday! So into the cart it goes.
Reading some threads at the Nexus and be aware you will be playing vanilla game or it looks like you must use a mod manager for mods. The mod manager was removed from base game, if I am understanding the angry griping correctly.

Anyone want to confirm either scenario?
Been a longtime since i played the game. Awesome mods back in the day. Glad its made it to GOG,But one question, didnt Bethesda upgrade the old version with fancy graphics no one really wanted? Which version is the one we got?
