Loger13: So now you no longer care about the presence or absence of such games in the catalog (as you said in the beginning).
You've mixed up my comments with those from edorien, I assume because we have similar icons.

avatar
octalot: The image on Steam's homepage that leads to that page doesn't look like porn at all.
avatar
Loger13: And you don't care about the link to its sale on the main page (as you said next).
Read my points again more carefully. When someone at the publisher is checking for dodgy stuff, why would they pay much attention to a link that doesn't look dodgy?

They are not looking for Dodgy stuff, why would they ? As European you should understand that.
We're not not the Bible belt, nearly hardly anyone will bat an eye on this, I know it seems odd but most people have the ability to ignore things they don't like.
And well for Publishers only sales count, they'll do as the romans do and since outside of the US and Muslim countries things are way more relaxed they don't care( And yes I understand the irony of germanies youth protection laws in that regard, but we are one of the few countries in the EU that is this backwater.)
The main and probably only reason for not more AAA games here is DRM free with an inkling of the small size, as long as DRM is considered useful this will not change.
And as long as People buy DRMed garbage this will not change, like everyone is complaining about Denuvo and how it recks game performance, but everyone still buys the shit.
Stop that and you'll do much more for DRM free gaming than any Eroge could ever hurt it.

Is there any confirmation that the publisher's ACTUALLY representatives actually check for "dodgy stuff" or is this just another example of wishful thinking?
Or is someone here just making assumptions (read: fantasies) as an argument?
Because it sounds like a representative is sitting there checking the catalog for games that offend the puritan's chaste countenance (according to a special blacklist approved by the Order of the Guardians of Morality, all members of which have sworn never to look at naked people or a picture of them, and not to show them to others).

Because the facts so far indicate the opposite: the presence of such content on Steam does not prevent publishers from publishing their games.

What facts are you basing that on, and what content are you claiming is on Steam? It seems Steam is being discreet about how some games are promoted, hiding some things so they're only shown to logged-in users, and having explicit content in DLCs that are only available from the publishers' sites rather than Steam.

As for whether publishers will be bothered by the other contents of the store, for most of them we'll only be able to guess. My guess is that Steam's policy comes from pressure from either publishers or users.

The publisher is going to be advertising the game, linking to stores that sell the game, telling their promotion team where to tell folks to get the game. Before that they're going to be looking at how the store promotes games and seeing what other games' tags they should apply to their own game's page. If they want to integrate achievements into the game then the developers will be looking at the store's developer guides. That's a lot of time invested, and a lot of staff who'll take a quick look at the store's homepage. If something dodgy is on the homepage then someone's going to notice it.

I totally understand that not every game will suit everyone's liking and that's completely fine :) We're doing our best to secure more releases and always welcome any constructive discussions about them, of course. That being said, stay civil as well and refrain from attacking each other.

Kafkaa: Hoping to see:

-Evenicle 2
-Erogejapan catalog (especially Isekai Succubus)
-WASABI entertainment catalog (at least the best ones)

Most of these are censored in the other store

I would add:

-Critical Bliss catalog, because they have a really great selection of games like all the Libra Heart titles.

-Reconsider adding Abaddon: Princess of the Decay

-Add patches to previously released censored games
I can talk to Critical Bliss about that. Jast also has Abaddon and yes, it very much should be here.

From a professional standpoint, I believe this could all be fixed with an adult content filter. You've mentioned more filtering options today and that one just can't come soon enough. The people who don't want to see this content will filter it out, then they will not have any reason to come to the forum and complain or start fights. If they no longer have to see the objectionable content, they won't complain about it. I talk with these adult publishers all the time, I love this content. But some people do not and it's going to be better for the whole adult gaming community if they can just have a filter for it.

Another +1 for Abaddon here. It's glorious and GOG defintiely needs it in the lineup! :'D Evenicle 2 as well
I'd also like to see Another Story of Fallen Maidens (make it happen, based JAST), and more of Kagura's quality titles like Succumate, Brave Alchemist Colette, and Princess Project.

Jast told me I'd have to ask Fakku about it. I had no idea Fakku were doing any submissions. But the head of Jast can't corroborate this. Where is the evidence that GOG was submitted Abaddon and it was rejected? I'm not hearing that from any of my channels in the eroge community. Once again, Fakku owns that one and as far as I know, no partnership between GOG and Fakku exists.

I got a message back from the guy who handles the game submissions over there at Critical Bliss. He said that they are getting things set in motion to work with GOG. So just be patient and it'll happen soon.

I'm going to assume you're replying to the other guy's comment about GOG supposedly rejecting Abaddon, and not me. Because I was wondering that too! x') Lurking on their socials, I didn't see anything about it.

The only big rejection I'm aware of is NekoNyan never getting a response from GOG when they submitted their games years ago. Same with a bunch of indie VN devs. But nary a peep from Fakku... so I'm really curious!

That was fast! And thank you, that's awesome news. They've got some nice titles :D

(I'm kind of beatingdeadhorse'ing myself but I'd like to keep providing feedback I think is meaningful)
I think similar to GrimLord but I'd prefer the "hide any game you don't want to see" option ("Hide game in catalog" option on the game's page, or just hide the thumbnail - maybe an a red "X" or something in its place - but keep the text, in the catalog), unless the majority of users agree on what should fall under an "adult" filter or not. (maybe if we're talking about blatant porn but I suspect some games aren't so easily categorized)
I'm wish listing for now because from the looks of things without installing the optional free adult stuff DLC, it's just an RPG. I like RPGs, so it might be worth checking out... But I still haven't played half of what I bought during the winter sale and expect my backlog to stagnate over the next few weeks, which isn't the best time to buy anything.

Anyway....

Maybe there should be some filtering options for these sort of games. I get it that without the DLC, it's not really an adult game. However some people might prefer not to see games like that at all even when the adult content is optional. It would save the forums from the same complaints every time such a game is released.

While we're at it, I think it would be great to be able to flag a game as owned elsewhere for additional filtering when browsing the store. I got VVVVVV from a big bundle on itch. While it is a game that I would strongly recommend (as someone who normally dislikes platform games), I really don't need an additional copy. It would be great to have some way to toggle hiding it.

So, no confirmation? As expected.
P.S. So many words, just to divert attention from the fact that you can't give any confirmation.

Then don't send me e-mail spam advertising pornographic games.

Put a setting on the accounts to filter out this stuff.

Are you listening?

These games are not pornographic unless you install the AO patch.
