CARICATUREKILB: Could someone please be a darling and help me with binding my Xbox 360 controller to the controls
document? If at all possible. And changing the y axis invert.
Thank you.

And yes, I am one of those people (shock!) who prefers using a controller to a mouse/keyboard.
Hmmm... Good luck there, System Shock has kinda complicated controls (even with the new mouselook mode) so whether you can cram all the controls to the gamepad, I'm not sure...

Or alternatively, you'd do many of the actions with the mouse pointer on the user interface, and not with the shortcut keys. Like leaning, crawling etc. Doable I guess, but quite a pain in the butt in the long run.

I personally rather use the controls that fit the game the best. For a game like System Shock, mouse + keyboard. For Tie Fighter, an analog flighstick + keyboard. For Darksiders, Virtua Fighter 4 or some (arcade) racing game, a gamepad. Right tool for the right purpose. Insisting on using a gamepad for System Shock sounds to me a bit like insisting on using a mouse and a keyboard for Virtua Fighter 4 or Grand Prix Legends.

(I guess a steering wheel + pedals would be the most authentic controller for racing games, but I am not going to buy one. I bought one wheel + pedal set in the past (it was supposed to be compatible with both PC and Playstation/PS2), but in the end I don't think I ever used it with any game. Too hard to set it up. Plus, unfortunately one can make better lap times with a joystick or gamepad, compared to a wheel+pedals set. Sad but true, the authentic controller is actually a poorer controller.)

I find it easier, and more comfortable, to use a controller whenever possible as I have arthritis in my left hand.
You can imagine the discomfort and inconvenient struggle I have attempting to find and apply keystrokes.
Still, never mind, I will meander through...

I don't have any experience with it, but wouldn't something like Pinnacle Game Profiler work?

Yeah, Xpadder should work nicely, even with default key bindings

INFERNO.COP: Using a controller's fine, to each their own. What I will frown upon is your use of a 360 controller though. Why anyone prefers it to a playstation controller is beyond me.

YaTEdiGo: I have chosen PS4 vs XBOX One, because I prefer PS4, but I still think the Xbox controller is faaaaaaar better than the Playstation one, but I must recognize that the new PS4 one is also far better than the PS3 gamepad. But still ONE controller or 360 is better.
The way Microsoft chose to position it's D-pad is way too awkward for my liking. They literally force you to use the analog stick for the directions. Also just as a separate point, I ain't too fond of the PS4 controller either. And while that may as well be since I haven't used it enough, still find the PS3 one the most comfortable.

The best Gamepad ever made is the Saitek p2600:

I've got it multiple times. 6 action buttons for the Capcom fighters (Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, etc...), four shoulder buttons for PSX, N64, etc... excellent D-Pad that doesn't let you slip off, good analog sticks, good vibration feedback, etc... too bad that stuff like this isn't made anymore and Saitek ignored all my mails.
It even has a switch/button for alternative mapping specifically for FPS, although I only play FPS with mouse+keyboard.

Microsoft destroyed all the innovation and variety when it comes to gamepads thanks to their proprietary bs and all the devs supporting it instead of the old standard. :(

I cant get this to stay running for more than 7 seconds.
It crashes to desktop every time.
If I let it run its course, it crashes on the intro movie just after it says "New Atlanta"
If I use esc/left mouse to skip everything I can get to the main menu but it crashes after a few seconds.

Rather annoyed as SS2 works fine

Win7x64, Nvidia 570, i7-4790k.

That does look pretty damn good if I do say so myself.

It's a known issue for some players that's being worked on by Night Dive and GOG. See this thread for some things to try (and maybe post your error logs, etc., there, so they can narrow down the problem's cause[s]).
GOG, I... I think I love ya.

The DPad was always better on Playstation, the DPad is the only better thing from the PS Gamepad vs the Xbox ones, actually the DPad in 360 is awful.

About classic, PSX, PS2 and PS3 gamepads, I loved them but I rather prefer Xbox controllers by far in general. I have big hands, I literaly HATE how the PS3 controller makes my thumbs find each other all the time, something that happily doesnt happen with the bigger PS4 controller.

Klumpen0815: Ok, after reading a bit I tried and the enhanced edition works flawless on my WinXP-SP3.
Same here. I just tried the enhanced edition and it works fine on my Windows XP SP3 machine too.
Unrelated, but glad to hear I ain't the only one still using XP around here.

one who uses XP will never be alone.
I will stand with them. :)

And sometimes also with one who uses Win 95, 98 and ME.

I will always have a WinXP system around for old games that I'm too stupid for to get them to run properly via Linux-WINE.
It was my last Microsoft OS and it's the same for many other people as well from what I gather.
When support for Win7 ends, there'll be the next flow of masses fleeing to Linux.
