What doesn't kill you, makes you a hero

Stories: The Path of Destinies, a fairytale action-RPG of diverging narratives, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 10% launch discount.

So is it the path? Or is it the destination? Perhaps one's legacy is decided by both. And to be considered a true hero, you must not simply follow your destiny, but take responsibility for all the deeds leading up to it. Unless you can die and try it all over again, that is.

Reynardo used to be a pirate but by a fit of (bad?) luck he is now pitted against a mad Emperor and must swiftly adapt to the unfortunate career change of being a hero. His nimble sword-swinging, dirty-fighting ways will prove incredibly useful, as will his capability to make morally questionable choices in the interest of evening the overwhelming odds. But when you are not averse to sacrificing a friend so that you can score a sinister sword, which Path of Destinies are you walking and where will it lead you? The storylines spawned by your decisions can have fairytale qualities, dark undertones, or exotic adventuring. Different skills, weapons, and encounters await you in each one and you can either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a completely different kind of hero.

Make critical choices and score critical hits as you forge your own Stories: The Path of Destinies, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 10% launch discount will last until April 19, 1:59 PM UTC.

IronArcturus: Looks interesting! Is it similar to Aarklash Legacy?
Looks closer to Bastion from the videos I've seen.
Just beat the first story - I really, really like this game. The combat is as great as in Arkham games (with a bit of a Bastion tinge, obviously) and the plot is cool and doesn't afraid to be cruel just because they're cartoon animals. I also like the branching and learning stuff from the endings, which makes my inner Zero Escape fan smile with a wide grin.

DampSquib: Looks great, hope it's keyboard and mouse friendly....remap keys etc.
Or it's a no.
Sadly, no, but I find the mouse-centric controls more than playable, as a Diablo junkie. The keyboard commands require only 1-4 keys, Ctrl, Alt and Shift.

omega64: Why is it broken. O_o
Did GOG screw up again?

Maighstir: It's just GOG being GOG again, and that's how we love them. Would be rather weird if they started acting Steam or Uplay for a day.
That sounds like a particularly evil April Fools, of course it would all go wrong and it would be permanently stuck that way.
I love the look of the game. Will pick it up shortly.
Looks interesting....but playing the same setting over and over again....thats a maybe buy, later. Much later.

Thank you, think i will buy it then, that is a shame, rebinding is always welcome.
Needed in my case, with luck this will be fine. If it's not it wont break the bank...still a waste is a waste.
Again, thanks.
Looks beautiful, it reminds me the Fable series. ^_^

jcosmocohen: I decided to read up on this because it looks very interesting. Here's something noteworthy: it takes around an hour to finish the game, BUT you're meant to replay the story around 30 times (!) to reach the proper ending. Apparently, each time you finish it, the main character learns something new and each play through will bring the player to new levels and give them new items.

Overall, I'm very intrigued by the concept. I might pick it up just to see how it all works.
So it's almost like Groundhog Day? I like the concept too.

That seems like a good way of thinking about it.
So I'm watching a let's play of the game, and the narrator just said, "Like in cards, when you had three knaves but you pretended you had a fizzbin." Star Trek: The Original Series reference ("A Piece of the Action"). Nice!

Another one is a chapter called "Grabthar's Hammer"; Galaxy Quest reference.

Bastion was my first thought when I saw the trailer and screenshots.
Looks pretty nice, wishlisted for now, will do some further research before deciding to buy.
Does anybody know about the compability with Wine?

Smannesman: Another action RPG?
The description sounds kind of interesting, but the screenshots look very generic (to me).
I'll wait for some reviews/let's plays.
I agree. It is best to see the review or Let's Play video.
Best Friends Play has a recent video.

But, they didn't say if it is the PC or PS4 version. They are using a PS4 controller, so it is probably PS4 version.
As others already mentioned, it reminds one of Bastion. Though Bastion was okay, it was far from the great experience I had hoped for. I'm not yet sure what to think about this one. Let's wait for some reviews.
